Opaque black with a two-finger foamy tan head that leaves a solid film and very nice lace. Aromas of dark roasted malt, cocoa, smoke and slight soy sauce. Taste follows, with roasted malt, cocoa, and smokiness accompanied by a slight bitttersweet chocolate. Full body, minimal carbonation, creamy texture and a lingering chocolate in the end. October 25th, 2013 - To cap our tasting session at Stone’s Liberty Station colony, we enjoyed a serving of the Cimmerian Portal. This is perhaps my favorite beer of their’s by name, tapping into nerd culture in a clever way, and giving a good idea of the depth and power they want to advertise for this brew. The aroma is not especially abyssal or apocalyptic, showing off a regular stout smell, with the usual mild assortment of malt, soy sauce, a touch of oats, and others. And the flavor was pretty mild mannered too, with a smooth nitro-esque palate and an elegant finish. The flavors taper off quickly and crisply, leaving a nice, dry note behind. It’s not as distinct as most Stone beers, and lacks that Stone quality or character, but it’s still fine drinking.

On tap at Liberty Station. It pours dark brown with a light tan head. The aroma has heavy roasted malt with bakers chocolate and bread. The flavor is nice and smoky with rich notes of dark chocolate and pumpernickel bread. Really nice soft mouthfeel with a chocolaty, bready, smoky finish. Really good stuff. Flavor is dark malt, roast and chocolate, sweet lactose, oats, faint earthy hops and bitterness and a sweet finish.
