Pours hazy red/brown with with a small offwhite head, specks of lace. Smells mellow sweet malty with lots and lots of earthy type peppers. Tastes of earth and peppers only a hint of sweetness. Lingering peppers and a bit of heat. Medium body, good carbonation.

Ok so ist es beim Crime, denn die Chili bringt den Gaumen auf hohe Temperatur. 8o Was das Gute bei dieser Arogant Bastard Variante ist das der Chili die heftige Bitterkeit fast vollständig überdeckt. Caramel brown in color... Aroma of caramel, hot peppers... caramel sweetness initially, gives way to insanely hot peppery heat... complex, but freaking insanely hot, despite four years aging in the bottle... kinda wanna keep drinking it

I honesty don’t have any idea how to rate this. I’m such a Stone fanboy that I usually fawn over even their oddest creations. The 2013 Vintage of Crime was just... random-assed as all hell. It pours the regular ruby shade. Nose is pure pepper. Flavor starts out that way, too. As the brew warms, it reveals chewy whiskey caramel and then intense pepper. The transition from sweet to spicy never works especially well to begin with, but it happens so fast that your palate can’t fully process the weird shit that’s happening. I can’t even totally trash this beer because this it’s supposed to be spicy, and it’s definitely successful in that regard. That might be the only area in which it fully succeeds, but that’s something. For once, here’s a Stone beer description that isn’t ironic. "[An] entire harvest of chili pepper varieties...an otherwise beautiful oak barrel Double Dry Hopped Lukcy Basartd Ale?... A Crime!" Bottle. A crime indeed. Pours very hazy hazel, large creamy beige head, good lacing. Aroma is an immediate blast of chili peppers, overwhelms whatever else might be there. Flavor is light plus sweet, quite spicy - drinkable if you enjoy a lot of spice in your food, otherwise probably crazy. Big big pepper flavor with some caramel underneath. Bourbon lost in the noise on this one. Medium body, burning hot finish. This is not necessarily a BAD beer, but the pepper addition was enough to take all the complexity out leaving a single note with nothing much behind it. Full disclosure: this was a 2014 vintage bottle. It is entirely possible that Stone has dialed this one back in in the years since.

Bottle at home. Pours brown with a large, frothy and bubbly beige head, short retention leaving just a spotty film on top. Aroma is medium peppers, soft cinnamon, moderate bready and toast malt, light caramel notes with medium pine and floral hops. Flavor is medium spicy peppers, medium alcohol (Whiskey), oak, medium pine and floral hops and bitterness, moderate bready and light caramel malt with a sweet finish. Haters gonna hate, but as disappointing as this Stone tasting was compared to expectations, this one I actually liked. But I’m a pepper guy. Hazy amber with a small tan head. Big hot pepper aroma, earthy, caramel, citrus hops. Flavor has caramel malt and loads of heat. Most other pepper beers are weak, but this one really brings it. Medium-full body, slightly syrupy. On tap @ Stone Brewing Berlin. Comes with a hazy brown amber color with a little brown head. The nose ist malty and oaky with nice aromas of bitter fruits like grapefruits, citrus and orange-peel combined with caramel and roasted nuts. Taste of grapefruit und orange peel (like the nose), some raisins, some nuts and then a lot of spicy chilli peppers! Only citrus peel and spicy chilli pepper on the finish.
On my opinion too much spicyness.

This is a very nice offering from progenitors of arrogant ale. Very oaky chocolateall the way through., The peppers really come through on the nose, almost smoky. Sampled this rather extreme novelty at the Columbia World Beer Festival 2017. From a bottle poured a murky brown appearance, which was reminiscent of chocolate syrup mixed in water, yet was strangely appetizing. Aroma was that of sweet licorice and Bourbon barrel with some spicy vegetal notes of the pepper becoming apparent. The pepper flavor was surprisingly balanced and not overwhelming; I was able to distinguish notes of habanero and ghost pepper specifically, which were a nice complement to the sugary caramel malt base. Notes of vanilla were also present. The hot pepper finish was likewise not excessive; and I don’t recall any booziness being apparent. Overall the taste was as good as expected for this unorthodox combination of bourbon barrel and pepper. Not a style I will ever prefer, but this was alright.
