Served from a bottle at Stones 16th Anniversary Festival. The appearance is a deep dark brown hue without too much head. The nose is full of black malts, figs, and floral accented pepper with some light oak smells. The flavors are bakers chocolate, peppercorn, nice figs and dried fruit, tasty oak but not the usual grainy variety. The flavor profile has a lot of unique characteristics that you just dont find in beers, and they work wonderfully together. Smooth, flavorful, and well melded. The oak addition is nice but only adds minimally to the overall enjoyment of a base beer I already love.

Can from Capones. Pours turbid black with frothy, tan head. Nose was dark malt, molasses, nuts, oak. Tastes rich, complex, with heavy dark malt, dark choc, oak, molasses, rich finish. Delicious.

"Heres a beer that the oak aging really did a number on the base, and in a very good way. I liked the black ale, but thought it a little rough around the edges and sweet. The oak toned those thing down while maintaining everything that was good in the original. Really liked this!"

The beer is near black with a small tan head. The aroma offers roast, pine, chocolate, oak. Wood flavors emerge more in the flavor. Nicely balanced. Chocolate notes and a pine finish. Notes of vanilla emerge as the beer opens up. A touch of molasses. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A solid beer. I would have this again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-09-2012

Bottle... Poured near black with a thin, light tan head. Got a lot of the virgin oak tones here. Was very effervescent in that sense. Reminded me of fresh cut wood. Malt sweetness and cocoa came into play too with dark fruits and vanilla. Quite nice.
