COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone Imperial Russian Stout is so thick, rich and well, sinful, you might worry that you’ll be doomed to the fiery pits just for thinking about a sip. It almsot seems evil. Rest assured, however, that even though this seemingly pernicious brew is indeed as black as sin, we guarantee that no actual sin was committed in it’s production...you’ll have to add that on your own. This Odd Year addition was brewed in the authentic, historical style of an imperial russian stout, but with the addition of several hundred pounds of espresso beans from our friends at Ryan Bros. Coffee. Actually, this could be considered historically accurate, since the Russian nobility were as fond of earthy breakfast beverages as they were of hearty dark beers. Catherine the Great herself bolstered her finesse for ruling an empire by drinking five cups of black coffee every morning during her lengthy reign. While we couldn’t fit five cups coffee in every bottle of this darkly delicious libation, we assure you that the deep, rich espresso flavors are unmistakable and meld beautifully with the roasty bitterness of the dark malts. Catherine would have whole-heartedly approved.

Bottle bought at Systembolaget in 2013. Black with a medium tan head. Smooth with espresso, dark chocolate, some dark bread and light licorice. Sweetish and with a full body. A nice one.

(Bottle) Black colour with brief, frothy, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of espresso, dark chocolate, cacao, black rye bread and raisins. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, black rye bread, liquorice, raisins in brandy and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness shining through. Fairly straightforward, but tasty, well made and solid with lots of black coffee and dark chocolate. Excellent beer.

dambor (700) - Berlin, GERMANY - APR 28, 2017
2013 version on tap at Stone Berlin. Pours black with creamy head disappearing fast. Aroma: a clear espresso kick coupled with roasted malts and a little bit of pleasant coffee sourness. Taste: nice roasty taste with some coffee and a good bitter palate. The coffee is pretty dominating but it is a fantastic tasty RIS.

Bottle @ home. Cellared for 3,5 years. Pours a black liquid with a tan to brown head. Aroma is richly roasted with coffee, licorice, vanilla, dark chocolate, red fruits, dark bread, dates. Some tobacco, resinous plums, pears/cognac and soy sauce in background. Body is big, carbonation low with a fantastic mouth feel that starts out with rich dark chocolate, roasted malts, licorice, vanilla and dark fruits. Together in a smooth but roasted palate that lasts for several seconds than nicely transcends into an increasing coffee and espresso sensation that lasts throughout the roasted aftertaste. Aftertaste also has slightly vinous dark fruits, dark syrup, ash and dark chocolate lingering

Bottle from Systembolaget, cellared for a year or two. Pitch black with tan head, leaves quite a bit of lacing. Aroma of vanilla, ground coffee, red berries, a bit of roast. Taste is similar with quite a bit of sweetness. Roasted, coffee finish.
