Thick, rich and sinful. Smooth as only Stone can do. A very enjoyable imperial stout. Take their incredible IRS and add espresso flavor. I was looking forward to this odd year release and it did not disappoint!!

22 fl oz / 650mL bottle into a tulip glass. Served cool.
Aroma: Rich chocolate and coffee. Currants. The aroma is strong with this one.
Appearance: Opaque pitch black, with the darkest dark brown head I have ever seen. Thick lacing.
Taste: So much chocolate and espresso. Roasty toasty malts.
Palate: Incredibly thick, incredibly long finish.
Overall: Fantastic, fantastic beer. Easily in my top 5. jhp40219 (449) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Bomber into snifter glass. Pours jet black with a chocolate tan head that leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is amazing! Chocolate, coffee, liquorice, and a hint of smoke. Taste is huge! Milk chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, espresso, toffee, liquorice, oak, and hints of dark fruit. Alcohol comes through strong and with a nice burn. Even so, this is very smooth and drinkable. Incredible long finish that leaves an insanely delicious chocolate and espresso aftertaste. Huge full body, thick chewy texture, medium carbonation. I have to go with a perfect rating here, I absolutely LOVE this and don’t know how this could be improved. I get the regular Stone Russian Imperial Stout every year and it has always been a favorite of mine. But the addition of espresso puts this over the top! Top of the top notch. mikedevilsfan (226) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 22, 2013
Almost perfect stout. Smells of espresso beans and chocolate. The same for the taste, well balanced impeccable. ladyhops (43) - - JUL 9, 2013
This beer seriously packed a lot of flavor and delivered well. Strong coffee strong booze strong ropes holding up a horse...(speaking of Catherine the Great no jk I know it’s false but they mention it in the description...)
I would highly recommend this beer to friends. It’s dark and rich and has a very satisfying mouth punching coffee essence, ready to please coffee and impstout drinkers alike.

Tastes just like espresso. Bitter, chocolates, desert, sweet, thick. A good espresso taste left on the palate. Very dark/black. Cream colored frothy head. MoorFiend (2) - massillon, Ohio, USA - NOV 6, 2013 does not count
Stone Imperial Russian Stout is so thick, rich and well, sinful, you might worry that you’ll be doomed to the fiery pits just for thinking about a sip. It almsot seems evil. Rest assured, however, that even though this seemingly pernicious brew is indeed as black as sin, we guarantee that no actual sin was committed in it’s production...you’ll have to add that on your own. This Odd Year addition was brewed in the authentic, historical style of an imperial russian stout, but with the addition of several hundred pounds of espresso beans from our friends at Ryan Bros. Coffee. Actually, this could be considered historically accurate, since the Russian nobility were as fond of earthy breakfast beverages as they were of hearty dark beers. Catherine the Great herself bolstered her finesse for ruling an empire by drinking five cups of black coffee every morning during her lengthy reign. While we couldn’t fit five cups coffee in every bottle of this darkly delicious libation, we assure you that the deep, rich espresso flavors are unmistakable and meld beautifully with the roasty bitterness of the dark malts. Catherine would have whole-heartedly approved. BrokerDon (1) - California, USA - MAR 25, 2014 does not count
I just picked up 5 liters of this on draft in growlers and its gotta be my favorite beer of all time. Flavors so complex and THICK that you can smell the espresso and carmel on your hands! Pours with a spectacular head and very drinkable for a coffee beer... Even people who don’ like beer love it! kilgore84 (4) - San Lorenzo, California, USA - JUN 19, 2014 does not count
Pitch black color. Nuce tan head. Beautiful coffee aroma. Subtle, but very nice coffee flavor. Good finish. zizzybalubba (1882) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAY 14, 2013
22 oz. bottle from The Greenville Beer Exchange, Greenville, SC (bottled March 28, 2013). Thick dark brown to nearly black pour with a rich brown head. Delicious aroma of roasted espresso and dark chocolate with light floral hops that sneak up from the back. Wonderful coffee flavor with rich mocha and light smoke that leave a slight lingering bitterness on the palate. The richness and mouthfeel are absolutely perfect. This is my kind of beer.
