On tap at Hop City, black as night with a large tan head. Nose is typical stout, not a lot of barrel or pecan that I can detect. Taste is pretty much all over the place. I think this is a good beer, just not a great beer. Nice try Will Wheaton

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2013 Draft at Jerryís. Black with modest, creamy, brown head, light lacing / Restrained nose of dark fruit, chocolate, roast grain, cream / Full body, chewy, creamy, lush, sweet, winey and boozy, but lovely balance with good bitterness underneath the long finish / Flavors of chocolate liqueur, date, fig, wheat, pecan, bourbon barrel / Minor deductions, but in end result, as good a stout as Iíve had.

Did my rating of this one disappear? Not sure. Had this on draft in New Zealand. Very dark maroon color, brown head. Aroma of licorice, burnt espresso, figs. Taste has coffee, dark fruit, cocoa, anise. Delicious.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2013 Bottle on 8/8/13. I wanted to like this more than I did. Itís not bad, just not great. Obvious barrel age but not overly hot. Dry finish from the pecans, but thatís all I really got from them. Kind of thin.

Bottle, as pictured. Sadly, I didnít like this one all that much. Seemed like there was too much going on, and not enough of anything in particular. I didnít get much in the way of pecan or barrel-aging. Looked and felt like a standard stout, but didnít have a memorable enough flavor while packing a too-strong booze punch. Meh.

750 ml - I wouldnít change anything. Black oil, no carbonation, layers of flavor with hops on back.

(bottle - 22 oz) Black pour with a thick tan head. Big roasted aroma with many sweet notes coming up through the roast. Lots of chocolate and coffee and some dark wine hints. Flavor is quite complex with tons of different flavors. Roasted coffee, chocolate, dark malts, dark fruits and the sweetness from the pecans really shine through in different stages. The rye adds a light dryness to the middle and leads to a very sweet and woody finish. Excellent.

Bottle Chocolate, earthy coffee, and slightly boozy oak aroma. Black brown with a small tan head. Strong black licorice, chocolate, and boozy oak flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.
