COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Pours a golden yellow with a foamy white head. Has an aroma of citrus fruit and floral notes. Flavor is floral and pine with lots of hops. I would enjoy this more, but there’s something in the finish that is a bit off. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Otherwise a good session ale.

Stone Go To IPA pours a slightly hazy amber body and sports a white head with a satisfactory lifespan and some lacing. The pleasant nose is bright with scents of lychee, citrus, and apricot, complemented by darker notes of piney resin. The tasting, however, falls a little flat. The attack is virtually flavorless, then the mid-palate undergoes a transition from bright fruits to darker grapefruit with intense bitterness and leads to a tannic, bitter, and dry finish with a hint of grape seeds. The lack of any maltiness and the light and rather watery body render this brew unable to balance out its big hoppiness, but it’s a small price to pay if you’re after something grand and hoppy yet low on alcohol content.

330ml can. Like their regular IPAs smaller brother, light in the malt character, but pretty big in the hop department, fruity and citric. Very quaffable.

0.33 l can from ’Spritterei’ at 4.7% abv, brewed by Stone Berlin, best before December 2017. Minimally hazy, yellow with a large, foamy, stable, white head. Sweetish, very fruity, quite grassy and slightly floral aroma of lemon, pineapple and grapefruit. Slightly sweetish, moderately bitter, intensely fruity, grassy and a bit floral taste of lemon, pineapple, lemongrass and grapefruit, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, grassy and a bit herbal finish. Almost medium-bodied, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Thirst-quenching and refreshing, quite good!

Golden pour that appears a bit hazy in the glass. Aromas of hops and mango. Resinous, bitter hoppy taste with a bit of orange peel and a bitter dry finish. Medium to light body with amble carbonation. Very nice hop forward brew at 4.8%.

USA notes. A can.Pale amber. Citrus, grape and pine. Dryish taste, followed by a full hoppy flavour. Finishes quite bitter. Medium body, and a watery mouthfeel. Overall, a good session IPA. More hoppy and bitter than others I have tried. The lack of malty flavours makes it a bit one-dimensional, but it is very refreshing.

Pale gold, slightly hazy with a thick, persistent white head. Orange/pine, big passionfruit and citrus aromas. Taste is bitter, lots of citrus, caramel, tiny bit of sweetness, mild bitter finish. Pretty good
