COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Its no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but well be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as thats what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, weve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Had this one a couple of times but finally getting around to reviewing one of the last bottles left in my fridge... Picked this up at the COOP a couple weeks ago.. Pours a crystal clear golden with a short lived white head. Nose is huge hop-forward tropical fruits with plenty of pithy citrus zest for so little malt backbone.. almost too much, but I really like it nonetheless. This tastes like my idea of summertime brews! Very hoppy and still balanced.. bitterness melts back fast into the pithy hops with just enough melon and finishes back bitter with a dry pale maltiness... Light body... nice bubble... incredibly drinkable especially for Stone..

Out of the can (LCBO), poured a hazy gold, with an unusually thick persistent white head. I didnt perceive as much tropical fruit as other reviewers - but I did get a good mix of apricot, pink grapefruit, pine, pepper, ginger and dank notes. Very pleasant aromas. The palate was assertively hoppy for a session IPA with grassy/piny notes shining through against a moderate malt backbone. I enjoyed this one. Packed surprising punch for 4.8% ABV.

tallboy from lcbo - late september canning. pours hazy very light golden with an abnormal white ehad offering good retention and lacing. celery salt, peppery pineapples, chalky and bitter citrus peel, some other tropical juice, crisp almost peppery wheat-like cereals, faint pale melon fruitiness, pepper. foamy carbonation, light body - watery; drying if not assertive tropical-citrusy finish. obviously a canning issue with its high carbed body and carbonic acid residual. had nice tropical flavours though - not necessarily in C hop zone, as in a comfort zone for stone.

Pours yellow gold. Aroma is a complex fruit salad. First taste is slightly watery malt but quickly folowed by Citra like Peach, Mango and Gooseberry hop fruit salad. A session IPA is what it is, but this is a good example

Poured from a can (which frothed everywhere) into a Splieglau IPA glass. Hazy, golden colour with 5cm of head in the glass. Citrusy nose and a big piney flavour. The light/medium body would make it very quaffable on a hot day. Lingering bitter aftertaste.

Gold body with small thin white head. Aroma is full of citrus and some pine. The taste is lemon, grapefruit, resin, and just a bit of the pale malts. Body is good for a session IPA and bitterness is quite high as well. Great session IPA

473 ml can purchase at the LCBO at Rideau and King Edward (Ottawa) on January 3, 2017. Hazy gold, big head. Dry faint hoppy aroma, not much else. The state is about the same, with some citrus notes, ok bitterness. Not my go to beer!

CAN 33 CL Berlin. Hazy golden, white head. Mellow and inoffensive aroma - sweet citrus, pale malts, hints if honey, just a little pithy. Subtle sweetness, subtle pale malts, soft resiny/piney hops. Light body, but not watery. A well made easy drinking session ale.
