April 17th, 2014 - At the time of the tasting, I was told the Hop Squander was limited to Stone’s satellite brewery and tasting room at Liberty Station. And while it might be rarer than the mainline Stone beers, it has much of the central Stone DNA. Slightly hazy, and with a healthy head, it looks a treat, ready to be feasted on. The nose is full of that dank, weedy and resinous hops that finds its way into so many of Stone’s brews, sticky, and with the lightest touch of overripe bananas (black, but still good enough for banana bread or smoothies.) The front of the taste is sweeter than I originally guessed, with touches of bright, green apple. On the other side, the taste ends with the marijuana taste, long and accented by a fuzzy and fizzy carbonation. An overall impression also suggests lots of grassiness, balancing citrus sugars with marijuana dankness and bitterness. It’s potent, but good. blipp (9278) - La Mesa, California, USA - JUL 13, 2015
Draft at the On Kettner location. Pours orange with a white head. Fruity hops up front, citrus rind, light bready malts and moderate bitterness. Fades into some grassy bitterness in the finish. Decent. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - JUN 20, 2015
On tap at Liberty Station. It pours a very clear golden orange color with an off white head. The aroma is very grassy, herbal with orange tea and florals. The flavor has more orange herbal tea, florals and a little cookie-like malt with soft piney bitterness in the finish. Smooth, lower than average carbonation. Good. Keg at Stone Liberty Station, 18/04/14.
Clear golden with a moderate off white head that retains well.
Nose is subtle hops, citric sherbets, bitter orange, grass, a little thin for the ABV perhaps but pleasant enough.
Taste comprises punchy hops, bitter orange, grapefruit, straw, pine.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with hop bitterness.
Decent enough IPA but maybe lacks a little depth for the ABV. rlgk (18850) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - APR 12, 2014
