Sampler during Stone Week (April 3) at Finnegan’s, Plainfield. 2008 vintage. Can’t you tell this was what I was drinking at closing time? Black body with a thick ring of foam. Smell of strawberries soaked in bourbon. Dare i say, more heady, impressive and intoxicating than my beloved Bourbon County Stout? Maybe. Alcoholic but not "hot," and with no "burnt" pieces like many stouts. Just some nutty roast malts paired with a fruit and bourbon smell. A great, creamy finish.
UPDATED: JAN 16, 2018 6200th review! 500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled in 10/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, fudge, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, vanilla, cream, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of raisins, nuts, licorice, molasses, leather, tobacco, smoke, char, and roast/oak earthiness. Slight booze in the aromas as it warmed, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, fudge, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, vanilla, cream, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of raisins, nuts, licorice, molasses, leather, tobacco, smoke, char, and roast/oak earthiness. Very mild roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, fudge, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, vanilla, cream, dark/brown bread, light licorice/smoke, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with a nice roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Alcohol is extremely well hidden; a mild warmth of 13.5%, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged Russian imperial stout. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV; with the very mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Very rich and well rounded malt complexity, with perfect barrel integration/balance. Never overly boozy, tannic, or drying. Very mellowed out hop presence and extremely smooth/silky mouthfeel from the extended barrel aging. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Pours an extremely dark brown with a dark brown-tan head. Delicious aromas of oak, coconut, tobacco, and chocolate. Flavors mirror the nose. Mildly sweet early, but becomes progressively drier. Strykzone (7799) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JAN 6, 2018
Sampled at an ESBLS. Almost black with lighter tan foam. Soy in the nose plus spices. Flavor is sweeter than the nose. Soy again with pepper. Some wood but not much. Actually it works but isn’t complex. nickd717 (4997) - San Francisco, California, USA - DEC 31, 2017
Bottle labeled Fyodor's Classic. Played beer pong with it of course. Black pour with a well formed tan head. Aroma is very nice, bourbon, chocolate, anise, vanilla. Flavor has sweet chocolate and caramel, bourbon and vanilla, earthy barrel notes. Some booze. Full and slick. Drinkable for what it is, but let's just say it was a good thing I was hitting most of the cups. Got a bit silly nonetheless. A huge, sweet cloying imperial stout. Aroma was roasted malt, dark chocolate and vanilla. Pour was a deep viscous dark brown/black with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was very strong and seeet. Big and boozy with hot dark chocolate, coffee and alcohol in the front with a sweet chocolate and vanilla finish. Moderate alcohol burn and it was a chore to finish the bottle. Mild carbonation

As far as borbon barrel aged beers go, I can’t think of any better. Aroma was nice. A sweet smell of vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Pour was a nice deep dark black with no head or bubbles. Taste was very strong and complex. Heavy chocolate and vanilla notes (from the bourbon) with a hint of leather and tobacco. Sweetened as it warmed up with the bourbon coming to the front and a nice milky chocolate finish. Some toffee in there as well. Mild carbonation.
Bottle from the Bearded Monk. Dark opaque black with a brown dissipating head. Dark roasted coffee, vanilla notes, sweet, and heavy. Nice. cbfobes (2888) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - DEC 18, 2017
Tap at Armored Gardens, pours black with a thin tan head and the littlest bit of lacing in the glass, aroma has a nice bourbon touch to it with a roasty touch. The flavor has a strong bourbon front end with a smooth finish, nice mouthfeel, good stuff. Andrew196 (2039) - Katy, Texas, USA - NOV 25, 2017
#2000! Pours super dark.... Flimsy beige head. Nose is deep chocolate and toffee, some roasty licorice and char. Weird feel to it.... Starts big, fizzles in the middle, finishes big with a lingering edge. Chocolate covered nuts, wood, earth. Well masked booze... The booze is sweet liqueur...dessert like. Lots going on but nothing really jumps out to make it worthy of the ranking to me. fidelis83 (2535) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - NOV 24, 2017
Fyodor, bottle says 13.5%ABV, not sure this is the same beer, but it redirects here. Black pour with a one finger, creamy tan head that fades to a thick ring. Aroma is roast, dark toffee and caramel, heavy nutty notes, some earthy oxidization, oaky, grainy bourbon. Flavor is deeeeep dark caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, big port simmered dark fruit, a hint of sweet cherry, lots of licorice/anise, lots of toasty oak, vanilla and some maple. Big heavy body, chewy to creamy feel, light carbonation, moderate boozy burn (which works well for such a heavy hitter), slightly drier and a little slick in the finish, but still big, rich and chewy. Really fantastic stuff, as much like GI BCBS as anything else I've had. dzudohonor (339) - POLAND - NOV 2, 2017
Rocznik 2014. Aromat: kakao, czekolada, wanilia, lukrecja, bardzo ładnie zbalansowane. Smak: kokos, wanilia, czekolada, kakao, lukrecja, ciemne owoce, słody palone, nuty drewniane, trochę kwaskowata kawa. Ciało średnie, alkohol pięknie ukryty, znakomicie pijalne, dwie klasy lepsze od podstawki.
