COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"There’s no question that Stone Imperial Stout is revered among enthusiasts," states Stone CEO Greg Koch. "I know, because I’m one of ’em and I can hardly wait for it to come out each year!" Some may think that a late Spring release for a special brew of this sort is an odd time for it to come out onto the market. Koch justifies this with the rationalization "What better than a warm time of year to come out with a brew that tastes great as it warms up!" That’s because "ice cold" is certainly not the appropriate way to serve the beer. Nearly without exception, the darker, richer and more alcoholic a brew is, the warmer the serving temperature should be. The Stone Imperial Stout label describes the brew as being "intensely aromatic (notes of anise, black currants, coffee, roastiness and alcohol) and heavy on the palate...expect this mysterious brew to pour like used motor oil and taste even heavier! Serve at 55 degrees."

Pitch black pour from the bomber into a tulip glass. A dirty tan short head formed. Held up to the light, not even on the edges is the light coming though. Looks beautiful. Smell: Dark malt, caramel and ALCOHOL. Taste: Malty, but not too sweet. There is a coffee kind of bitterness. Alcohol lingering minutes afterward. Full bodied, my tongue is going numb from the alcohol. Light carbonation. Excellent. This is perfect for a cold, stormy day in front of the fireplace. It will warm you up nicely. It hits the notes for a Imperial Russian Stout. Even though Stone gives fair warning on the bottle that it is loaded is alcohol, I would prefer a little less on the nose. Minor complaint. Excellent stout.

Bottle from BrewDog Online. Deep black colour with a thin tan head. Rich bitter malty aroma and taste with a touch of tabacco. Not the depth of some big stouts, and a touch one dimensional.

Aromat kawy, beczki i owoców.
W smaku team słodyczka z wyraźną, konkretną i krótką kontrą goryczkową. Kawowe, czekolada deserowa, świetnie ułożony.

Czarne, gęste z niską brązową pianą. Aromat bogaty - kawa, czekolada, praliny, owoce. Wysycenie niskie. Świetny klasyczny imperialny stout

With over 3,000 ratings, I’m not going to be able to say much new that you won’t find in another post. If you like Stout, then I’d suggest you would be exceptionally pleased with this one. If you are new to Stout or big beers, maybe cut your teeth on something simpler and work up to it. Otherwise most other stouts will be disappointing compared to this.

Bottle. Pours black with a medium brown foam subsiding down to a rim. Scent is medium notes of sweet and sour wort/Kvass. Caramel and possibly nuts - pistachios or almonds maybe? Taste is nice consistent mix of flavors - doppelbock, toasted malt, caramel, wort, brown sugar, cedar. Finish is slightly sour. Very Great.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2017 6 fl.oz - 66cl, Stone IRS, Limited Spring 2007 Release. Straight into the lugagge to Italy from a fridge @ Stone, Oceanside, CA. 1 of the 2 last 2007 bottle, which both rested in a fridge for 10 years. THANKS BOB!!! ---- Snifter. Still pours a magnificent 1 finger beige head, pitch deep black oil. Smells ridiculous, straight in the face like a shot, deep sweet rich maltiness heaven, and on the other side an anice refreshing layer, with raisins, vanilla, coffee liquer, cocoa and a bit barrel like kick. Never smelt something like this. Taste is also quite overwhelming, from roastiness to deep malty grain, rich dark chocolate, again with a sort of spiced and anice refreshing touch that comes from nowhere, with a hint of whisky-coganc barrel alcohol, just delicate. Sweet, kindly bitter, thin fresh hint of sour, balanced like only few IS I’ve tried. Viscous, thick but slick, and still lightly carbonated body, amanzing palate. Smooth edges, incredible drinkability and balance. This beer has aged incredibly, still feels crispy and thick like the fresh one but with 10 years improvement on the shoulders. Would like to taste a "fresh" 2015-2016 one, this feels just phenomenal.

Tap at Harry’s, Jyväskylä. Black color, as surprising as it is. Flavor of roasted malts, caramel and chocolate, sweetness, slight alcohol, coffee. Moderately bitter, medium to full body, roasted finish.

(650ml 2015 bottle from Systembolaget web order) Pours pitch black with a small dark tan head and no lace. Aroma of milk chocolate, nutty roast, dried figs, dark fruit, vanilla ice cream, sweet dark malt, light coffee grounds. The flavour is drier than the nose would suggest, and roastier, with a nut and cacao character joining the burnt grains. Notes again of milk chocolate, dried dark fruit (esp figs and dark berries), vanilla, earth, char, ash, spent coffee grounds, dark caramel, and maybe some bittering hops. Off dry to begin, finishing bone dry with touches of warming alcohol. Medium full body, slightly oily, very soft carbonation. Probably slightly thinned compared to when fresh. Elegant, somewhat restrained, malt-driven complexity, far from a cloying sugar bomb, this is a good sipper that makes a nice shift from the contemporary adjunct-driven style.

Wersja 2016 Barwa czarna, piana beżowa, niewielka. Aromat kawy, czekolady, wanilia, anyż, czarna porzeczka. Coś wspaniałego. W smaku gęste, oleiste. Alko niewyczuwalne ale mocno grzeje w przełyk. Wyczuwalna kawa, czekolada, wanilia, czerwone owoce. Spora goryczka palona. Dość wytrawne a po ogrzaniu trochę cierpkie. Pifko jest o dziwo mega pijalne. Mega ułożone. Turbo pifko.
