By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2007 Golden straw color with nice white head. The aroma is of light malts and big grapefruit citrus, little grassy hops. Light mouth feel. Not too much malt character but it is made up for by the complex hop finish.

A good but not outstanding IPA. The aroma is good: hoppy, but not strongly so. The hops dominate the flavor, leading to a crisp finish. The greatest weakness is that it seems rather thin up front; malt richness not present. A little more malt would greatly improve this beer.

12oz Bottle. Pours out an orange amber topped with a cream head. What a great Hop aroma. Very hoppy I love it. Very well made.

Great IPA...of course, to be expected with Stone. Quite similar to their pale ale (also an excellent beer), especially with the grapefruit background flavor. Perfect amount of bitterness, perfect amount of sweetness. Cant go wrong with this beer.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2006 Great off-white frothy head lasting a good part of the beer. Clear sparkling body but did notice tiny body particles and a thin density. Brilliant amber IPA coloring convinced me to drink.

Heavy hops aroma, slight lemon but more grapefruit/orange; quite like a fruit punch. Light yeast aroma that I thought was a bit meaty, more so as I finishes the glass. Initially lightly sweet and acidic, this IPA finishes with the acidity elevating to a moderate bite and lasts quite short. Fairly full bodied as it is an IPA and a bit dry but has a lively carbonation. This a very good IPA even though it left a slight metallic feel in the mouth.

Clear tangerine, ebullient bubbles terminateing in a lumpy whipped cream head. Magnificent lace. Aroma disappoints with its mild ambiguity butterscotch, parmesan, bubblegum, pinesol; an inauspicious beginning. I think Stone forgot to dryhop this one. Crackery malt evokes sensations of orange blossom honey and breadcrust, while resiny hops brand a double-edged blade of hot/cold spice: cinnamon and peppermint. Fleeting off-dry finish dosed with lemon pepper. Substantial palate, sensual and lubricatory. Citric, floral, and burnt sugar/cigar ash hop aftertaste. Bitter but not cloying. Decent IPA, though far less flavorful than expected.

Pours an orange amber with nice lively appearance, good lacing and head. Cheesy, smoky, citrusy fresh hop aroma. Full bodied, smooth and long finish. Flower and perfume. Well balanced and not overpowering. Doesnt show its strength. I like.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2006 12 oz bottle shared with StompBrockmore - Pours a light honey colour. Decent head, but that went fairly fast. Aroma - WOW. Huge citusy-sweet hops that got me all excited-like. So, I was ready.....and then.......nothing. Well, something, but not much. There is a strange sweetness to the beer, and after that huge hop aroma, the flavour is kind of tame. Drinkable, sure - but given the amount of seriously great American IPAs around, I probably would be in no hurry to grab this one again. Being Stone, the stakes were high, but I was slightly let down by this one - probably a result of a few things - super high expectations, the grandiose claims on the back of the bottle, and having this back to back with the Smuttynose IPA, which made this one seem a little......washed out.

12oz bottle, shared with VeloVampire - I had high expectations for this beer, following its fantastic reputation. Given that this is a good beer, I cant help but feel it is overrated. It pours a nice golden yellow with a bit of amber that is typical for the style. The head was white and fleeting. Aroma is a big hoppy blast, and quite sweet in the nose. Nothing terribly surprising or complicated happening, but definitely an inviting citrusy aroma. The flavour expands upon the scent, amplifying what youd expect and making it bigger in the mouth. Very sweetly hoppy and citrusy off the top, with some orange flavours playing, followed by a solidly crisp and bitter finish. It didnt take my socks off and slap me around with them, but this is still a solid IPA. Ive had better though, and I think this one might glide by on its "bad boy" reputation a bit more than it deserves. Had back to back with the Smuttynose IPA which I thought was much more complex and superior.
