A pure citrus and hop amalgamation wafts over a crystal clear golden amber lake. The foam scribes angry dragons and monsters down the glass. Encroaching malt sweetness harmonizes with a brazen bitter. This is a classic. I keep coming back to it, and never tire of the senses it spins.

Bottled. Moderate head with nice lacing. Hoppy aroma. Clean and crisp without being overly bitter. Well balanced with a mellowing presence of malt. It's not as complex as my personal favorite, Victory's Hop Devil, but very, very good. 40oz (181) - Newport Beach, California, USA - SEP 16, 2002
Amber color with a thick creamy white head. Flowery citrusy, junipery, Cascade hop aroma with a hint of maltyness. Strong citrus, tea, hop flavor bitterness and uncharacteristically but not unplesant subdued malt flavor for a Stone beer. An outstanding beer.

Amazing hoppy yet slightly sweet aroma with a great milky golden appearance. Great hoppy flavor and a nice hoppy finish. Definitely one of the best IPA’s I have ever had!! charcot25 (181) - Cordova, Tennessee, USA - JUN 15, 2008
Pours a light amber with rocky white head. Aroma is of candied orange. Taste is sweet with hop notes of orange, grapefruit and spice followed by a solid punch of hop bitterness. Some toasted malt notes as well. Just perfect.

Just about perfect California IPA. Great appearance, more than matched by the layered flavors and intense, varied hops. A great effort from one of my favorite breweries...

[A] Very candy-like, sugary, smell. Malt must do it. Piney, orange, fruity hop perfume. This is quite a quaffer. [A] Clear gold. White head. Alive in glass. [F] Piney hops. Hops. Hops. Citrus. Some pale malt sweetness. [P] Between light and medium bodied. Easy to drink. Bitter is great for 70 IBUs. Lingers on. [O] This is a pretty damn flavorful brew. I enjoyed every sip of it. Highly drinkable. 99/100 is impressive. I imagine its deserving, as this is a great definition and rendition of style, let alone, a great beer. Nice. UPDATED: JAN 26, 2017 Can, Berlin Brewing Co. Pours amber with white head. Taste is your typical West Coast IPA - grapefruit citrus, pine, but i also get a tropical lychee taste that I associate with Citra hops that. Interesting but I prefer Stones Ruination Double IPA Nel (180) - Virginia, USA - AUG 20, 2005
This is a very good ipa. It has some excellent undertones that make it one of the best ipas out there. eyesandsmiles (179) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUN 6, 2007
friendly little brother of ruination. less character but still a great ipa. hoppy and bitter. perhaps a bit less intense than other stone brews
