nice smooth hoppy aroma. its got a solid green bitterness. sweet malts poke through. I’ve had hoppier, but few that are this good. Dionysian (39) - Paris, FRANCE - AUG 25, 2002
Just like me in the midst of a wild and crazy round of drunken hopscotch, this beer is HOPPY.
Very crisp, bitter finish. I can understand how past raters have claimed its somewhat acidic, with an almost medicinal quality at times.. but still, a great beer.

GABF 2002: Fresh piney aroma. Nice golden colour. Thin, crisp, and bitter. Not much matl balance unitl the end. Dogbrick (13126) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 12, 2002
Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. I didn’t think this stacked up to Ruination but it is still a contender. Dry, biting hops keep it interesting but it is still easy to drink. Keep ’em coming Stone! fly (1486) - austin, Tejas, Texas, USA - APR 7, 2003
Having had some IPA's that have hops strength that can shrivel tongues, this came of as rather well balanced. Meaning that while the malt flavor is well subdued I was not over powered by the hopping, just greatly pleased. Very nice. Really impressed that with all the hops hat may have died for my pleasure, they did not do so in unnecessarily

hazy copper color with a small white head. Very nice pine and citrus hop aroma. flavor is grapefruit, with pine and floral notes, with some malt sweetness leading to a bitter hop finish. nicely balanced and well done. beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2003
Color is a lighter shade of pale yellow, some hazy cloudyness with a finger high white head of looser thickness, fades and bubbles down to some bubbles along the rim. Lace in webby loose sheets. Smell is quite floral and sweetly hopped lending light pine, light grapefruit and a touch spicy. Not all that strong but very fresh and hoppy. Swirling brings out some soft caramel malts and alcoholic warmth. Taste is a calming smooth, subtle hoppy little treat. Solid floral and dried sense of hops with a good touch of pine and grapefruit mixing with peach notes. Nice light backing of soft caramel malts; a bit of toasted bread. Well balanced and the bitterness is well under check with nice lingering spicy dried grapefruit notions in the finish. Lightly creamy and a fair medium body feel with a crisp, clean subtle hoppy finish. Maybe expecting to much from this beer with all the high recommendations. Its a solid IPA for sure, but didn't quite make the impact on me with more of a mellower hop flavor then I was anticipating. Comparisons aside, this was very close to Town Hall's Columbus Pale. So as an IPA this was more like a great pale. jfm (1724) - Holbæk, DENMARK - NOV 20, 2003

Double Dry Hopped version on tap at Oregon Brewer’s Fest, July 31 2011: An orange amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, pungent and fragrant floral hops, resinous, with a bit of catnip. In outh, a good biscuitty malt with very resinous pungent hops, mentol, coniferous, quite nice and challenging. 8-3-8-4-15
UPDATED: APR 10, 2007 2003 Draught. Yes!! I love it. I get tired of all of these new super wowee double ultra IPAs. . . I like a sessionable IPA. 2004 draught. Yes. Good. Balanced.
Having had bottles of this twice now in blind tastings, I havent been as impressed. I actually got some yeasty, blandish, sourish type notes, almost buttery. Though the mouthfeel is still creamy and soothing and the nose expressive.
