By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2006 Draft: First beer from this keg. dense and creamy head that is very sticky. aroma is floral, citric, touch of caramel, sweet, kind nuggets, nutty, pine sap. flavors of ripe oranges. like biting into a ripe, juicy orange, hop burp...something i hadn’t had in a beer before this. palate is very round and soft, juicy, extremely fresh and refreshing, yet very complex.

This is a truly fantastic IPA for those who love a strong, lasting hop presence, and at nearly 7% ABV it doesn't lose any drinkability.

A darn good IPA. Solid hop backbone, but this beer is set apart by the malt character. Deep caramel and slightly roasted malt flavors really make this IPA worth drinking. The relationship between the hops and the malt -where some other IPA's fall flat IMHO - make for solid mouthfeel. Another fine West Coast IPA

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 10/3/02: Over the top HOP-HOP-HOP. My intro to IPAs. 8/16/03: Golden color, light white head. Flowery hop aroma. Flavor is malt, grapefruit and pine. This was once the benchmark for west coast IPA’s, but AleSmith has raised the bar! 5/10/06: Green Flash has raised the bar again. 10/26/06 But I still pick up a bomber every now and again. 10/21/11: My go-to-beer at Valley View Casino.

Aroma is top notch extremely inviting hoppy aroma. Malt flavor is quite well done, just the right amount of residual sweetness. My main beef is that the hop flavor was quite different than the hop aroma. I felt that it led to a bit of a disjointed drinking experience.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2007 Stone India Pale Ale pours out an attractive, brilliant golden color with a hint of amber. Famously citric and piney hop aroma. Flavor is of course largely hop-oriented as well, but it has a decent sized malt backbone as well. Finish is where the brilliantly clear, resiny hop flavors come into play the most, with a nice bitter aftertaste as well. For the amount of hops and all-around bitterness this beer has, though, it is balanced quite effectively by the malt that is present enough here to give it a nice body and a hint of caramel and fruitiness. Quite refreshing on this warm summer night.

Strong, citrusy. Some sourness in the aftertaste. Some pine thruogh the nose as well. Could use a little more carbonation out of the bottle.

Fantastic aroma, very hoppy, citrusy. the taste does not dissapoint, there is no point in waiting for the malt because this beer is all about the hops. and there is so much to experience. they are wonderfully sharp and crisp in this brew. the hops balance themselves quite well. the only problem is that you wont be able to taste too much other than hops when you are finished with this one.

A pure citrus and hop amalgamation wafts over a crystal clear golden amber lake. The foam scribes angry dragons and monsters down the glass. Encroaching malt sweetness harmonizes with a brazen bitter. This is a classic. I keep coming back to it, and never tire of the senses it spins.

Very hoppy, although surprisingly not too much that it is overpowering. Citrus/floral aroma and citrus and hop flavor with a nice bitter finish. Malts were still somewhat detectable as not to make this too one dimensional.
