3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Ashley’s. Pours black with dark brown head and typical RIS lacing. Aroma is roasty with raisin, molasses, wood, and citrus. Taste is sweet malts, molasses, dark fruit, esters, orange. Full bodied, chewy mouthfeel, low carbonation, boozy finish.
On tap at Ashley's. The pour is an used oily black with a thin ring of lighter khaki head and no lace as it fades to a collar. The aroma is big on the stout appeal. Roasted malt, dark fruit, wonderful molasses and almost an earthiness. Then you get the black IPA characters. A roasted hop profile that's just great, and compliments well. The flavor is one of the more different things I've had in recent memory. The flavor bursts with the roasted malt and a resounding bitter hop blast before morphing into the wonderful stout segment, offering molasses and dark fruits to go along with the mild bitterness. Then, it turns back to black IPA with the bitterness and lovely dry finish. The mouth feel is creamy, medium bodied, with a great carbonation, and the aftertaste is a molasses type of dry roasted malt and hops. Beautiful

Aroma is sweet, cocoa, marshmallow, vanilla, slight hops. Appearance is black, thick, light brown head. Taste is complex, went from stout, to black IPA, back to stout. Wonderful flavors, coffee, roasted malt, then piny hops. Mouthfeel was perfect, oily, soft carbonation, lingered. Overall, quite impressive. tcane7 (1674) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 14, 2014

Had a glass on tap as part of a flight at Ashley’s. Malty but honest. Yummy. umich03jm (3512) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - MAY 29, 2014
Draft at Ashley’s. Very dense, black pour with a small creamy head that just sits there. Aromas are chocolate fudge, pine, coffee, roast, and light citrus hops. Tastes like a hoppy RIS. Fairly thick. Nice rich chocolate and coffee flavors mixed with fresh hops. Very bitter in the finish but still remains smooth. Gets a tad boozy when it warms up. Awesome stuff. Should probably be listed as a black IPA.

Aroma is heavy hops, pines, herbs and subtle cocoa. Appears black with a thin tan foam rim and nice lacing. Taste is intense bitter hops upfront with massive pines, bitter coffee roast, slick caramel, sticky malts and chocolate. Finish brings more hops. Overall, super hop forward and boozey. Taste like a Black IPA to me. Not bad. flatmatt (1627) - Northville, Michigan, USA - MAR 7, 2014
On tap at Ashley’s Ann Arbor. Pours black with a light tan head. Chocolatey hoppy aroma. Pine and citrus hops match roasty malt in the flavor. It’s not totally in harmony, but as it is it’s still pretty darn tasty. jkwalking05 (4745) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 26, 2014

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours amber with a beige head. Light fruity aroma. Med body. Lightly sour stone fruit flavor with a fair amount of citrus hop. Malt is minimal in the flavors which go towards peach/apricot/citrus. marcus (10869) - Sacramento, California, USA - JAN 21, 2014
On tap at Capitol Beer. Pours near black with a nice tan head and a toast and jam aroma. There is a fairly bitter smoked malt flavor with some molasses and a sort of fruity citrus finish. Complex.
