got it at the brewery in a growler. agreed to smelling like cognac and being creamy. you can definitely tell it tastes more like wine than beer. pretty good

On tap at Stone Escondido, pours a hazy dark amber orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings lots of fruity sweetness, light barrel character, and caramel. Flavour is super fruity, with lots of berry-like fruitiness, light barrel notes, and caramel. This has mellowed nicely over the years. Excellent.

Vom Fass in Berlin. Trb kastanienfarben, wenig Schaum. Trockenobst und Rum Duft. Dazu Ahornsyrup. Holz im Antrunk. Man merkt die Reifung. Asche und Rauch im Abgang. Der Alkohol ist elegant eingebunden.

Vintage 2008, sampled from tap at Stone Garden Berlin. Hazy amber color with big eggshell head, slightly darker than the other Old Guardian variants next to it. Aroma is coffee, toffee, piney, surprisingly fresh. Taste is again coffee, surprisingly fresh. Sticky-oily mouthfeel. Not so much red-wine barrel for me, but definitely a nice and interesting Barley Wine, theres a lot going on!

Scopey 10K Celebrations in deepest Croydonia. Big thanks to Leighton, been after this for years! Very hazy deep amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth, semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, trace of thin cream. Mildly bitter toffee. Trace of citric peel. Mild red wine builds in the mid. Modest spice. Smooth finish. Nicely layered barleywine.

Bottle share at Scopeys 10,000, many thanks to Leighton. As 2011 Old Guardian Temecula Red Wine, 10.5%. Very dark mahogany brown, hazy, opaque, still, small foamy tan head. Aroma is leather, resin, boiled sweets and a little mint. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is toffee, sweet fruits, boiled sweets, touch of red wine. Nice but too sweet for the likes of me.

Bottle shared in London during Scopeys 10k - I picked this one up at the brewery. Old fruits in the nose, earth, bread, toasted caramel. Medium sweet flavor with earthy bitterness, some oily pine, dried fruits, berries, leather, orange peel. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Warming finish, plenty of oiney bitterness, jammy fruits, leathery berries. Great stuff. Its a few years old now but theres still a lot of kick here. Good beer.
