Tasted at brewery for RBSG. This was a really amazing beer. Nice copper red with creamy tan head. Bourbon, spice, and caramel aroma. Smooth buttery palate. Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, spice, toffee, and oak taste. julieimagery (182) - Coconut creek, Florida, USA - MAY 16, 2012
Amazingly good barley wine. Perfect balance of hops and malt, but of course more malt than pine/citrus. Loved it, had at Mom’s May 14th. :/ Rojum55 (12) - California, USA - JUN 29, 2013
Bottle: 2010 Old Guardian Aged in Bourbon Barrels Batch (?)
Aroma: caramel, dark fruits, bourbon, smells excellent.
Appearance: Dark Amber.
Taste: Heavy Dark fruits, barrel character from the bourbon, excellent Old Guardian Aged taste.
Overall: Too good, an excellent bourbon barrel aged barley wine! blackmurder (236) - Whitaker, Oregon, USA - MAR 19, 2008
An easy going barley wine. Feels about 10% alcohol and hides it well. Tasty esters and dark fruits, peaches and berry inhibit the body. carl4beer (522) - Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA - AUG 6, 2008
Draft at stone. of all the epic beers on tap this night... this was my fav. pours reddish brown with no head. aroma is all bourbon and vanilla. mouthful was full on bourbon that gracefully faded to allow the great old guardian come through. the big bourbon note was amazing and delish...

2004 edition on tap at alewife for the stone total tap takeover. pours a hazy, orange-copper with hints of gold and a thick, creamy, off-white head. aroma is wonderful with massive vanilla, oak, and coconut with hints of orange creamsickles, lemon citrus, and big notes of toffee. flavor was absolutely fantastic with tons of vanilla, oak, and toasted coconut with fruity notes of oranges, peaches, and lemons backed by grassy hops and light pine esters. palate is full bodied, smooth as silk, with a hint of sticky sweetness and light warmth on the swallow. overall, an amazing bourbon barrel barleywine. rlgk (18847) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 24, 2013

Incredible taste, not too boozy- just the right amount of time in the bourbon barrels. The Stone barley wine was already fantastic, but this edition set the bar even higher. slowrunner77 (11917) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 24, 2014
Loved the barrel influences in the brew. Nice wood and vanilla and a hint of pepper. The base was unfortunately a little past it’s prime (2006) or this would have went from great to epic. 11/12 had a bottle, 2010 bourbon - lighter than expected barrel influence ended up being near perfect, letting the original beer and the barrels shine. In 2012, 2006 = 4.3, 2010 = 4.7. Aaaaaaaand the 2014 version is COMPLETELY different than the other bottled release. Like night and day. While I loved the 2010 for being light on the barrel and showing the base more, I love the silkiness and the decadent overbarreling of the 2014 version, called Guardian’s Slumber. If I had to pick one verision, Guardian’s Slumber would be it. 4.6+." riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JAN 14, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 26, 2008 On tap at Stone. 2006 vintage. Pours a burnt orange copper color with a disappearing head. I get lots of bourbon in the nose along with candy sweet malt, perhaps candy apples. Notes say, "Wow"! Flavor is straight bourbon up front followed by a nice super sweet fruitiness. Some hops do peak through on the backside, but are subdued, but there still is bitterness. Also, I get a little oak in the flavor as well. Full bodied and hot alcohol, but still pleasant. Lingering bourbon flavor. Damn fine nightcap.
