Sampled at Maxs American Beer Fest. I was very excited to try this. Pours a translucent, rosy amber with a fading white head. Some legs like a scotch. Fruity aroma, grapes, slightly boozy. Flavor is very nice, buttery, salty, slight rosy/zinfandel flavors. Full bodied and salty on the palate. Pretty good.

On tap at Stone. Pours a hazy orange-amber with a small white head and lacing. Aroma of wine, wood, and malt. Taste is sharp and quite bitter, of malt, citrus, wood, and wine. The hops are pretty much gone. Lingering sharpness. Odd, but very nice.

Thanks Naven! I got to try a glass of this off the growler. First thing I noticed, before I actually knew what it was, is the faint smell of grape, possibly wine. Whaddya know! The nose didnt translate as much into the flavor, but I wish this were a bottled staple that I could get more often. OG is good, on its own, but these new flavors and smells just set it up another rung on the ladder. Good stuff.

Growler from naven. Very nice brew. Red wine barrel aging definitely adds depth. Sweet, caramel, peppery. Some Cabernet notes. Love it.

Had on tap at Stone in an 8oz glass. Smells of "C" hops and thats about it, a little bit of caramel. Smells delicious. Looks very light for a barleywine, a nice deep caramel color. Small head that dissipates into a halo rather quickly. Taste is lots of C hops up front, very crisp and bitter, and then finishes with a sweet lightly malted back, and thats where you really taste the red wine. Its not over the top, but compliments it very well. Red Wine esters trail off the end notes to what is a fantastic barleywine.

From a growler I picked up at Stone W.B. Very interesting - Pretty much standard Old Guardian, with a slight touch of oak and a good amount of red wine. Actually, the wine was so present, it was almost as if a mix of Old Guardian and a cabarnet. Would have liked to taste a tad more oak, but thats a minor complaint. A tad bit boozy, as well. Overall, this was really tasty.

Draft at Sunset Grill. 2009 vintage. Poured a hazy dark orange color. The head was off white with good retention and lacing. Smelled of dark fruits, toffee, and subdued cinnamon. Full bodied and sweet with a warming alcohol effect and mild bitterness. I tasted oak, toffee, dark fruit (fig), and booze. Not overly red wine-ish in my opinion, but good.

Draft, ahhh just what i needed to save the OG, the dry arid hoppiness is gone leaving behind a sweeter, vinous Cabernet barely wine. Light cheery and woodiness with a strong alcohol warming. Great stuff.

Tap at Sunset Grill. Poured a brown with a small off white ring. Aroma was vinous with some caramel and dark fruits peaking through. Nice hop bite with a lingering malt finish. Very Nice Beer.

Tap at Sunset. Enjoyable. Red wine tannins come through in this brew. Not so much in the aroma, but in the taste. Fruity notes make this almost have sangria-like qualities.
