ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - OCT 7, 2010
on tap at DLD ’09 and alewife for the stone total tap takeover ’10. pours a hazy, orange-gold with a creamy, yellow-white head and sticky lacing. aroma is great with fresh, sticky, pine hops, wet greass, and blood oranges backed by elegant red wine, tannins, plums, and light toffee. flavor is fantastic with the fruity red wine notes perfectly integrated with notes of oak, vanilla, pine esters, and citrus hops with toasted toffee coming in late and the wine tannins adding a unique tartness to the finish. palate is smooth, medium bodied, and lightly carbonation with just a touch of heat. overall, a great wine barrel aged brew.

RCL (2032) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 4, 2010
2008. Just a wee hint of wine on the nose. Fairly light vinous character gets totally overpowered by all the malt sweetness and still-monstrous hoppiness.

4.2
fbm115 (187) - New Jersey, USA - OCT 4, 2010
On tap at Rattle n Hum arrives with a small white carp. golden with a touch of red. mostly clear with a touch of haze. some lacing sticks lots of alcohol in the smell with vinous notes that compliment the booze. rich vanilla smell with light carmel toffee notes with a bit of malt sweetness. hops are fairly potent in this. taste is rich barelywine with vinous notes that compliment. booze is high but it’s nice. vanilla woody flavors come through fairly rich. clean taste overall. mouthfeel is rich and full bodied. though a bit lighter feel than the other varieties. creamy feel. low carbonation i would love to have this beer again sometime
