Whether you are writing the correct year by now or not, it’s officially 2013. That means a new Stone Brewing Co. Odd Beer for Odd Years release. The first time around, Old Guardian was “Belgianized”. This year is a oak smoked edition. This beer makes uses of the same smoked malt used in recent collaboration The Perfect Crime.

Bottle at Bruce’s - London. Lightly hazy amber-ruby with a moderate, frothy off-white head. Looks great. Some smoked ham in the nose, honey, rich bread. Medium to big sweet flavor, bubblegum, candied ham, some bitter earth, sweet bread. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Warming finish, lightly astringent, more candied ham, rich bread, some ripe fruits. Heavy duty stuff. Pretty tasty.

The smoke aroma is delicate. Good flavor, woody, a bit smoked, malty, not too old or oxidized, still with a good amount of bitterness.
Still excellent.

2013-08-17, best before end 2016, according to non original Swedish tag, 8-5-8-5-16=42
Hazy amber color with dark copper hue, creamy head. Give it a few minutes, it will develop a harmonious aroma of toffee and smoke, medium depth, with some elegance. Full bodied, malt flavor with toffee and biscuits, delicate smoke, wood; the sweetness is moderate; strong bitterness, with hop resins in the background; long final.
Frankly, well brewed, bold but balanced.
