UPDATED: JAN 18, 2011 Bottle 2006. Pours a deep amber with a small off-white head that quickly fades. Aroma is loads of sweet caramels, cookie dough and toffee, tons of pine and a heathy dose of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet and very bitter, lots of piney hops and caramel. Very warm and bitter finish. Mouthfeel is big and chewy. BeerandBlues2 (13697) - Escondido, California, USA - APR 24, 2006
22-oz bottle, Early Spring 2006 release. Pours clean copper and ruby with virtually no head. Aroma is caramel and maple malt (cookie), orange citrus and pine hops and an alcohol nose. bomber picked up at the Liquor Stop in Indiana. color is an orangey amber. aroma of caramel candy and some spiced fruit. flavors are a nice blend of the aforementioned aromas with some alcohol thrown in. a better than average BW but nothing spectacular. paul9639 (116) - New Hampshire, USA - APR 20, 2006
impressive beer. I expected a barley wine heavy in hops and bitterness, considering everything else that I have tried from Stone, but it had a suprisingly even finish. Great fruity/toffee aroma, with a caramel/toffee like flavor. Nice beer jefcon (1921) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - APR 19, 2006
Limited Early 2006 Release. Maple syrup color and aroma, also smells of brown sugar, caramel malt, some hopcit and alcohol vapors. Flavor profile is not too aggressive, though the alcohol is apparent. Sweet malts, vanilla, dark fruit (plum, berry, fig). Long palate is a bit watery toward the end. Overall, a good, solid, not-so-woody barleywine, and lots of it in the 22 oz bombers. allfreej (556) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - APR 16, 2006
Bottled, 2006 vintage. Poured copper with a tan head that dissipated quickly, leaving a bit of lacing to the sides of the glass. The aroma was fruity, with hints of raisin and vanilla, and the flavor was dominated by fruit notes as well. A nice, viscous mouthfeel, and an alcohol finish with a hint of hops bitterness made for a nice after-dinner beer. warriorx99 (85) - USA - APR 16, 2006
Bottled. This pours a deep copper color with a small amount of fizzy head. The aroma is sweet with a slight malt/hop mix that smells REALLY good. I only wish the taste matched. This is the same old over-hopped bitter beer from Stone with a sharp alcoholic bite to it. For some reason, it reminds me of sake, only bitter.
