Pours an orange body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel and citrus with a touch of spice and alcohol. Flavour is full of malt and darker fruits with a sweetness to it. Finishes with the citrus and hops coming in for the finale.

22oz bottle. Clear and ruby hue. Minimal white head. Sweet cinnamon nose. Syrupy. Full and lively. Smokey and dry with a slight alcohol nose. Flavors or notes of port, chocolate/cocoa, caramel, spices, piney hops and prunes. Sticky sweet with a cola like flavor and palate. Malt notes are sweet and pruny. Hops develope a citrus note to the finish. Fantastic! Prime example of a Barley Wine. Caramel sticky sweet with a ton of fruity notes.

impressive beer. I expected a barley wine heavy in hops and bitterness, considering everything else that I have tried from Stone, but it had a suprisingly even finish. Great fruity/toffee aroma, with a caramel/toffee like flavor. Nice beer

Limited Early 2006 Release. Maple syrup color and aroma, also smells of brown sugar, caramel malt, some hopcit and alcohol vapors. Flavor profile is not too aggressive, though the alcohol is apparent. Sweet malts, vanilla, dark fruit (plum, berry, fig). Long palate is a bit watery toward the end. Overall, a good, solid, not-so-woody barleywine, and lots of it in the 22 oz bombers.

Bottled, 2006 vintage. Poured copper with a tan head that dissipated quickly, leaving a bit of lacing to the sides of the glass. The aroma was fruity, with hints of raisin and vanilla, and the flavor was dominated by fruit notes as well. A nice, viscous mouthfeel, and an alcohol finish with a hint of hops bitterness made for a nice after-dinner beer.

Bottled. This pours a deep copper color with a small amount of fizzy head. The aroma is sweet with a slight malt/hop mix that smells REALLY good. I only wish the taste matched. This is the same old over-hopped bitter beer from Stone with a sharp alcoholic bite to it. For some reason, it reminds me of sake, only bitter.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2007 22 oz. bottle 2006 release - Pours a deep copper color with a one finger thick off white head which faded quickly. Light fruity aroma. Flavor is also a little estery. Light alcohol warming. Initial bitterness is strong but fades quickly. Medium body. Good beer. Have to try it again after my other bottle has aged a year.
Re-Rate (1/07) This beer has mellowed nicely. More toasty malt is noticeable. Very smooth on the palate. Has lost some of its hop and bitterness punch. Time has treated this bad boy well. (numbers are adjusted to the year old bottles tasting)

22 oz 2006 bottle. Pours a glowing reddish orange with a medium off white head that goes to a thin film.

The aroma is sweet and spicy candy-like caramel with some hoppiness and a bit of watery DMS. Its kind of metallic and phenolic as well.

The flavor is spicy caramel and a strong watery alcohol with a sharp and spicy bitter alcoholic finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with light carbonation.

Overall, not so great. Its too alcoholic and not very complex. I wonder if this bottle might be a little bad (especially from the smell). Ive had it once before and remember not being impressed though.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2007 After a long day at work I needed something to just finish the job fast... this was it. Orange body with a small head. Unique fruity aroma that cannot get away from the stone house character. Moderate hopping but overall this was syrupy sweet. Not bad, but its stone so its not really my thing.
