A beautiful bold barley wine. Massive malt and hop notes. Silver Medal winner at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in the Barley Wine category. Gold Medal winner at the 2002 World Beer Championships in the Barley Wine Category. Look for it in the first quarter of each new year. Can be cellared or enjoyed upon its release.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy white head. Has a caramel, fruit, and brown sugar aroma. The fruit is less apparent in the flavor, which has a sweet caramel/sugar taste at the start before being dominated by medium bitterness. Not quite as bitter as Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot Ale, and not quite as deep in its flavor, but still pretty good. Maybe a little raw. Has a warming alcohol burn.

Pours a beautiful amber with nice white head. Left thick heavy lacing throughout entire drink.big malty, hoppy flavors. Aggressive barley wine. Should have laid it done a while. Very good though.

Upper class barley wine. Farm yard funkyiness, sweet super charged alcohol notes, massive malt, great length. Not overly complex for the style but nevertheless a good example. (40th bday drinks at Stone Liberty Station, $5 8oz).

Huge caramel on nose, same caramel in taste with surprisingly intense piney hop kick, intense maltiness in background but doesnt cover too pushy hops, bit bready, dried fruits. Hop syrup in two words. Well.. its interesting and enjoyable brew, but feels bit unbalanced for me as bitterness overcomes sweetness way too much

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s bush. Aroma is heavy cinnamon nutmeg spices with toast and sweet unrefined sugars and earthy notes. Clouded caramel brown with a lasting thin cream head. Flavour is sweet brown sugars, cinnamon spices. Some earth. Hides the alcohol pretty well. Palate is viscous. Sweet and lowish carbonation. A bit sweet for me.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a creamy to frothy lasting beige head that leaves great lacing. Aroma is sour, banana, malt and pine. Flavors of caramel and grapefruit. Surprisingly light body for such a rich taste, oily feel, average carbonation, medium to heavy sweetness, light to medium bitter taste and a sticky sweet and lightly bitter finish. Hides the alcohol very well.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2015 Drank on January 30 shared with friends. Bottle from Winooski beverage Warehouse. Aroma : caramel, dark fruits. App: clear brown, no head. Taste and palate : full body, liquoreux, medium-high sweetness, sweet and alcohol finish. Overall: really good but really sweet.

650ml bottle (2015 Classic Release) pours a murky orange amber color with a generous head for the style and leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits with some herbal and grainy notes. Taste is a fruity and grainy malt sweetness with a herbal hop bitterness. Medium to heavy body with moderate carbonation that leaves a good sensation on the palate. Overall, this is definitely an American barley wine, with a lot more hops than its English counterpart. Well balanced with a great taste and definitely recommended.

On tap at BrewDog Liverpool. Deep reddish brown beer, with tiny tan head. Aroma has raisins, spicy and sweet toffee. Taste a moderately sweet, with medium body.

2014 Bottle. Pours a vibrant copper color with a small white head. Smells and tastes of maple, molasses and caramel. The high ABV definitely makes itself known with a warming finish. Bitter and astringent. Overall a pretty good beer but it needs to be tamed a bit; I’m sure aging it a few years would help a lot.
