Draft at Sheraton San Diego - Poured a darkish amber with a fairly thick off-white head. Aroma was on medium malt and citrus/grapefruit hops. Nicely balanced. On tap at Rama in San Diego. Copper amber in appearance with a creamy white head. Nice hoppy aroma with a bit of a berry-like essence. Flavor is smooth- caramel and solid bitterness without the extreme grapefruit of the IPA. This is a very well-made pale ale. UPDATED: OCT 20, 2005 Malty aroma. Nice amber color with a good off white head. Seemed like the hoppy alcohol bite presence at first. But half way though the beer was more easy on the palate. Fine white head, excellent rentention with some lingering. Mainly malty aroma with some floral notes in the detectable range. Medium body, with a slightly chewy palate that fades into a crispiness. Malt flavor with hop characteristics, some fruity and some floral, most evident through the finish. I think the Pale Ale showcases the Stone yeast, with its lower attenuation complementary ester formation, perhaps best of all the Stone beers. Not to say this is Stone’s best offering, but rather the distinctive Stone tastes can be codified easily in this brew.

Slightly hazy, moderately dark amber w/ finger of off-white foam. Aroma is hoppy & fruity (citrus) w/ a firm malt foundation. Medium, chewy feel. Flavour is well-balanced w/ lovely notes of chocolate & grapefruit & a slightly earthy quality. Hop character is evident but restrained (especially for Stone), & the finish is relatively sweet. in a hole. Keg came in today. Thin, offwhite head; no lace; clear, dark golden honey body. Medium body, light foamy carbonation, lightly dry. Aroma of pale malts, loads of honey, musk, touch of citrus. Flavor is musky, honey, pine, touch or grapefruit pulp, grains; finish is musky. Note reads "Malty little sucker." Reminds me of Sierra N PA with less bite and more malts, lots more malts. Not real sweet, but real malty--if that makes sense.
