(draught) Deep copper with piney hops aroma. Nice hops kick up front that is balanced by malt in the middle. Excellent APA. lemonlovr (190) - Orland Park, Illinois, USA - OCT 13, 2003
Aroma of apricots and other assorted fruits as well as big West Coast hops. Color is a red-tinted gold. Flavor is fruity up front with a satisfying hoppy finish. Good mouthfeel and a great pale ale. Nuffield (4167) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - OCT 12, 2003
Great aroma--the West Coast hopping is muted into a pleasant fruit-juice like fusion on top of maltiness that anticipates a balanced bitterness. The flavors are less exciting, even ending bland, with a basic palate, some lingering astringency and bitterness. Golden amber color. Ho-hum, and a candidate for "over-rated" in my opinion. iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 11, 2003
Dark amber orange. A fairly hoppy aroma, with a nice wet malt presence that offers a nice balance to an aroma I expected to be one sided. Nice flavours with lots of oranges, whole wheat & rye dough, pine and good malt. A pleasant beer with a good array of flavours. . . JoeM500 (1908) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - OCT 10, 2003
Piney hops aroma, nutty-caramel malts. Very flavorful, simple, balanced, and satisfying. This should be pictured in the dictionary under "APA".

A nice amber color with a moderately sized off-white head. The aroma has a nice blend of hops and malt. A bit of caramel, nut, whole grains, oranges, pine sap and a hint of dry alcohol. The flavor also had a nice balance of malt and hops. A nicely crafted, tasty beer with plenty of character. jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 6, 2003
Really pale flavors with some rye, wheat, and grain textures. Mild hop flavors. Would expect some more boldness for an APA from this brewery. Decent but standard. erway (1004) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - OCT 4, 2003
I hate to report that this is the first brew from Stone that I though was sub-par in anyway. The color is a deep amber, why not call it what it is,... an amber, and the hop character was,... non-existent. Very unimpressive and so many of you rated it really well. I hope it is not due to a certain expectation of rating for this brewer. jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - SEP 28, 2003
Dark amber with a nice white head. Very good malty/hoppy aromas. Very balanced malt hop flavors. Medium body with a bitterness that tingles the tongue and then quickly diminishes. Kasteelfreak (341) - Fallbrook, California, USA - SEP 27, 2003
I'm not a big APA fan, but this is probably the best I've had. Actually, it's second to Stone 7th anniversary. They're quite a bit different though. IMHO, this is way better than Sierra Nevada, which I'm not a big fan of. Good balance. Kind of has a nutty flavor. Not as bready, and a lot crisper than other APAs I've had.
