arrogant bastard for the average joe of beer drinkers. if youre not into the hasness of american strong ales from stone, the pale ale is a smooth change for the everyday thing or even as a special. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - OCT 18, 2003
Deep amber with a reddish-orange hue. Creamy and thickish mouthfeel, even fluffy at times; rewarding. Darkly toasted malts (deeply toasted bread, but not quite "burnt") with an underlying sweetness (cooked caramel with a hint of cocoa). Grassy, slightly herbal hop aromas balance the malts nicely (though, I have to admit, I was hoping for a little more). Decent bitterness in the finish lingers deeply into the aftertaste. Easily quaffable, tasty and pleasant to drink. gerdy555 (163) - Ohio, USA - OCT 18, 2003
pours orange and cloudy with a white head. nose is a little hoppy. flavor is smooth, no over the top hops, solid malt presence. nothing to go nuts over but a good example of an apa. kwoeltje (2234) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - OCT 14, 2003
(draught) Deep copper with piney hops aroma. Nice hops kick up front that is balanced by malt in the middle. Excellent APA. lemonlovr (191) - Orland Park, Illinois, USA - OCT 13, 2003
Aroma of apricots and other assorted fruits as well as big West Coast hops. Color is a red-tinted gold. Flavor is fruity up front with a satisfying hoppy finish. Good mouthfeel and a great pale ale.

Great aroma--the West Coast hopping is muted into a pleasant fruit-juice like fusion on top of maltiness that anticipates a balanced bitterness. The flavors are less exciting, even ending bland, with a basic palate, some lingering astringency and bitterness. Golden amber color. Ho-hum, and a candidate for "over-rated" in my opinion. iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 11, 2003
Dark amber orange. A fairly hoppy aroma, with a nice wet malt presence that offers a nice balance to an aroma I expected to be one sided. Nice flavours with lots of oranges, whole wheat & rye dough, pine and good malt. A pleasant beer with a good array of flavours. . . JoeM500 (1909) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - OCT 10, 2003
Piney hops aroma, nutty-caramel malts. Very flavorful, simple, balanced, and satisfying. This should be pictured in the dictionary under "APA". Jokes (1455) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 8, 2003
A nice amber color with a moderately sized off-white head. The aroma has a nice blend of hops and malt. A bit of caramel, nut, whole grains, oranges, pine sap and a hint of dry alcohol. The flavor also had a nice balance of malt and hops. A nicely crafted, tasty beer with plenty of character. jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 6, 2003
Really pale flavors with some rye, wheat, and grain textures. Mild hop flavors. Would expect some more boldness for an APA from this brewery. Decent but standard.
