A Massively Dry-Hopped Deep Crimson IPA
Pat-ASK-ala? Pata-SKALA? Pa-TASK-a-la? While those in the know favor the third pronunciation, no matter how you say it, this is a unique red IPA. The beer was first brewed in September 2015 to support music and arts education programs in Pataskala, Ohio, where Stone co-founder Greg Koch grew up. People there loved it, so we added the beer to our seasonal lineup, and the Pataskala name stuck. The crimson hue is courtesy of a special German malt variety by BESTMALZ® called Red X. Appearances, however, only tell so much. Heavily dry-hopped with Mosaic, Cascade and Amarillo hops, the beer is incredibly citrus-forward, rounded out with notes of biscuit and toffee from the malt bill. The result is evocative of red IPAs yet different. And as luck — or perhaps skill is more the appropriate word, to give our brewing team their due — would have it, it’s quite wonderful. We think you’ll find this unusual red IPA to be quite deliciously satisfying, no matter how you choose to pronounce it.

Pours clear dark reddish brown with a small off white wisp. Aroma is rich toffee and caramel malts with loads of citrus hops. Taste is just how I like it. Over powering toffee laden malts with citrus and grapefruit hops with light dankness and resinous that sits on the palate.

De mooiste (rode) kleur IPA die ik tot nu toe heb gezien. Kraag kleurt mooi mee. Wegens ’vakantie-omstandigheden’ gedronken op een graad of 15. Maar ondanks dat: wat een heerlijk bier! De bitterheid blijft lang in de mond achter. Een tractatie!

Bought this is an Stone IPA variety 12 pack ($25!! Jfc) that included ruination, delicious and a singe hopped series, but this was by far favorite. Delicious chewy biscuity backbone on this beautiful auburn reddish brown colored brew. The dry hopping gives it a super fresh tangy floral flavor. Its layered and complex and i just dont want it to end. Another great beer by Stone.

12oz bottle @ home. Pours a beautiful deep reddish-amber with a frothy off-white head, excellent retention and lacing. Lots of citrusy, grapefruity hops aroma. Flavors are totally hoppy, pine resin, caramel malt. Medium bodied with a candied, bitter finish. Excellent IPA, Stone Hops Company does it again.

This is a flavor packed insane beer. I want it on tap, the bottle didn't do it justice. Another home run for stone ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice fresh grapefruit/citrus smell. Dark red pour with a long lasting brownish tint head. Some bitterness in the mouth at first, a rich sweetness too. That full, slightly sweet base flavor is rather tasty. This turned out much better than I was expecting after that first sip.

A strong red IPA with plenty of bite. Pours a reddish-brown with a thick, frothy head. Lots of burnt apricot and hints of molasses and maple. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a fan. This does not taste as fresh and crisp as other Stone IPAs . Slightly off putting nose and a weird bite in the finish have me looking to the other Stones. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample from bottle at Omaha Beer Fest 2017. Poured hazy reddish amber, off white head. Aroma was grapefruit, pine resin. Taste was bitter, grapefruit rind, piney.
