A Massively Dry-Hopped Deep Crimson IPA
Pat-ASK-ala? Pata-SKALA? Pa-TASK-a-la? While those in the know favor the third pronunciation, no matter how you say it, this is a unique red IPA. The beer was first brewed in September 2015 to support music and arts education programs in Pataskala, Ohio, where Stone co-founder Greg Koch grew up. People there loved it, so we added the beer to our seasonal lineup, and the Pataskala name stuck. The crimson hue is courtesy of a special German malt variety by BESTMALZ® called Red X. Appearances, however, only tell so much. Heavily dry-hopped with Mosaic, Cascade and Amarillo hops, the beer is incredibly citrus-forward, rounded out with notes of biscuit and toffee from the malt bill. The result is evocative of red IPAs yet different. And as luck — or perhaps skill is more the appropriate word, to give our brewing team their due — would have it, it’s quite wonderful. We think you’ll find this unusual red IPA to be quite deliciously satisfying, no matter how you choose to pronounce it.

Poured a brownish red with an off white head that laced nicely. Very bitter and dry but yet enjoyable. Solid but not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Red in Color with a three finger head. Aroma and taste is like an average IPA. Not real impressed.

RSRIZZO (2034) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - NOV 10, 2017
12oz bottle poured into a Shaker at 43°. Color is a deep hazy amber with light carbonation and a thin tight off white head. Aroma is toffee and hops. It has a medium body with a crisp mouthfeel. Flavor jumps in with toffee and malt then a mild bitterness comes in with a peppery hop spice. In the aftertaste the hop spice stands out as the bitterness grows. Overall this is a great brew, they really hit the good points of a Red and an IPA.

[email protected] Clear ruby red body with ivory foam. Candi apple, pit fruit, herbal, caramel aromas. Herbal, tangy fruit, spicy caramel flavors __ good

Deep dark ruby and almost a brownish, deep copper coloured body with a rather large, four to five centimetre tall tan soapy head that takes quite a while to dissipate. Aroma of malt, toffee, earth, grain and a bit of bitterness throughout, but more from the malts than hops, for sure. Medium-bodied; Deep earthy and toffee flavours dominate with some alternative malts, perhaps oats and rye are noticeable, but there is a definite and rather obtuse bitterness from alcohol and pungency throughout. Aftertaste is deep, showing a lot of toasted grain, caramelised sugars and a touch of alcohol near the very end. Overall, a decent enough beer with a lot of pungency and assertive qualities and perhaps stronger than I was thinking it would be, but not mild or timid - pungent and decent throughout. Worth trying if you love IPAs and those with more malts than average, but passable for most. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wine, Cheese & More in Chincoteague, Virginia [Eastern Shore] on 28-May-2017 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 25-August-2017.

Pours clear dark reddish brown with a small off white wisp. Aroma is rich toffee and caramel malts with loads of citrus hops. Taste is just how I like it. Over powering toffee laden malts with citrus and grapefruit hops with light dankness and resinous that sits on the palate.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2017 De mooiste (rode) kleur IPA die ik tot nu toe heb gezien. Kraag kleurt mooi mee. Wegens ’vakantie-omstandigheden’ gedronken op een graad of 15. Maar ondanks dat: wat een heerlijk bier! De bitterheid blijft lang in de mond achter. Een traktatie!

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2017 Biscuit covered in honey n brown sugar. Hazy auburn red brown with thin cream sustaining head. Super fresh tangy floral finish. Its layered and complex and i just dont want it to end. Another great beer by Stone. So glad i found this in a sixer and not the mixmatch stone ipA 12 pack.

12oz bottle @ home. Pours a beautiful deep reddish-amber with a frothy off-white head, excellent retention and lacing. Lots of citrusy, grapefruity hops aroma. Flavors are totally hoppy, pine resin, caramel malt. Medium bodied with a candied, bitter finish. Excellent IPA, Stone Hops Company does it again.

craftbeersweden (723) - SWEDEN - JUL 26, 2017
Dark amber to red, clear beer.

Dry and bitter, orange peel, dried fruit, citrus, bread, pine and toffee.
Great beer!
