Please note that the Ruination produced in Europe is the Ruination Double IPA 2.0
So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

Tasting at beer temple. Clear dark golden pour with tan head. Aroma of citrus and a slight yeast funk. Amazing crisp grapefruit in the flavour

courtesy of Allen - hazy orange colour with a little white head; aroma of apricot and quinces; quite perfumy; full-bodied and very bitter, aggressive; dry and very bitter fruity finish - terribly one-dimensional and quite a deception considering the high score on ratebeer

[thank you, after4ever]
Pours orange amber with a slight chill haze. Aroma is mild and fruity sweet with a good dose of hoppiness, but is really isnt over-powering. Some caramel as well. Mouthfeel is extremely dry. Flavour is hop, hop, hops :o) Good backing from malts, but the hops are really at the fore here. Very, very dry, but also very one-sided. Id prefer the 10th Annniversary Edition.

Bottle has a nice biography of the beer and some nice artwork, says 100+ IBUs, oh boy, here we go. Poured from a bomber into an oversize wine glass. Nice darkish amber color, its a really clear brew, not many bubbles. Scent of piney, citrusey hops, the smell is all about the hops, its rather refreshing too. "The moment after the first swallow, all other food and drink items become substantially more bland than they were just seconds before." Not really but thsi brew has a great taste, the bitterness is up there but beyond it its hop bliss. Not alot of malt here. Just sucking on that bottle with a little beer in the bottom gives you the full hop flavor. This stuff goes down like candy water though, i think i could easily down a 6pack of bombers. Overall not the beas DIPA but a highly, highly worthy one.

pours a foamy, retaining to rocky offwhite head with gold color. Aroma is sweet tangerine & grapefruit, bubblegum, malt. Taste is lots of dry, biting hops with back up malt, alcohol. Taste gets mellower as I progressed, or my mouth and tastebuds got mellower.

One-third pint, 7.2 % ABV, tap at North Bar. Crystal clear amber coloured body. Low, but lasting, white layer. Dried fruity aroma with a touch of pumpkin. Taste is apricot, resin and pumpkin carefully added by malty sweetness. Rounded bittersweet finish of citrus peels that lingers for quite a while. Nice (Leeds 01.07.2013).

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2004 Medium amber with an averaged sized off-white head. Piney/spruce smell with hints of oranges. This beer reminds me why IPAs are one of my favorite styles - hops, hops and more hops!

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2015 Great floral pine citrus smell. Nice dark orange color. Cellared for a couple of months, and found balanced in bitterness and only a bit palate erasing.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2003 Bottled: One really wants to sing out loud and praise this magnificent brew. Kind of reminds me of the musical by Woody Allen "It's all about hops...". Is dark golden coloured with a medium lasting head. Hops and earth aromas. As soon as you start drinking, the hoppy bitterness hits you like a horse. The bitterness keeps on evolving on the palate, and leaves you with a pleasant feeling. This might not be the most complex beer I've ever tasted, but for sure I've never tasted anything as hoppy and bitter. Very good. As much as I really like this beer, I cannot rate it as high as the (IMHO) much more complex and harmonious belgian, dutch and british ales. Once again many thanks to herbjones for another top californian beer.
