Pours dark ruby mahogany with three fingers of light brown head. Smells of smoke, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is smoke with subtle hints of vanilla and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Stone Smoked Porter with Vanilla Beans finishes a little smoky.

12 oz. bottle, pours a very dark brown / black with a reddish tinge and a small beige head. Aroma of vanilla beans upfront, dominating the nose - nothing much else is detectable. Flavour of vanilla beans, coca cola, and some slight cocoa powder buried further underneath. Relatively high carbonation for the style, making it less smooth than optimally desirable. The vanilla beans are a very nice addition to the standard base beer. Solid stuff.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt. Lots of chocolate. Flavor is also packed with chocolate (milk chocolate in particular, but some dark chocolate notes too) and roasted/light charred malt notes. Smooth palate. This is super tasty and I love the chocolate notes! Reminds me somewhat of Dieu de Ciel Aphrodite (similar chocolate notes that is but less creamier). Great beer!

Good brew. Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma is full of smoke and vanilla. Taste is light smoke, medium bodied, and finishes dry with notes of vanilla.

I don’t understand how so many people rated this so high. The porter base of the beer is not very good and does not marry with the vanilla all that well. I have to say this is the most disapointing Stone beer I have had to date.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is outstanding, notes of dark roasted grain, hints of dark chocolate, light smokiness with a touch of vanilla. Flavor is much the same but the aroma I feel is just better the flavor. Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Overall, very solid brew!

robforbes (2268) - Bremerton, Washington, USA - AUG 14, 2012
pours black with a small light tan head, and a little lacing.

smell is of milk chocolate, malt, and vanilla.

taste is smoth, cocoa, a little smoke, vanilla, a touch of coffee, and some malt. ends smooth and chocolaty.

KajII (801) - Macon, North Carolina, USA - AUG 14, 2012
Bottle. The pour was a thick murky dark brown with a slight reddish hue and a large (2-3 finger) light tan rocky head that dissipated slowly down to a large cap with some good spotty lacing.

The aroma was of roasted chocolate and crystal malts with a bitter leathery yeast and had notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, cask, roasted coffee, and a mild smoky odor.

The taste was quite malty and lightly sweet with hints of chocolate and vanilla throughout with the finish being a tad bitter and having a nice strong note of coffee towards the end. The flavor lasted an long enjoyable time, with a mildly bitter coffee taste left to settle on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was medium in body and nice and creamy in texture with a ever so soft carbonation.

Overall a good creamy robust tasting brew with a nice vanilla sweetness, which just added to this pleasurable drinking experience…

Pours a deep cola brown with a thick tan head. Rich cocoa and roasted malts in the aroma, picking up some sweetness, like maple syrup. Medium bodied, smooth, roasted flavours with cocoa, vanilla. The sweet, chocolate goodness then fades into a lingering bitterness.

Jabic (713) - Plainfield, Vermont, USA - AUG 13, 2012
Ar: Cocoa, caramel, and vanilla - hints of marshmallow.
Ap: Deep mahogany - clear when held up to the light - small light tan head with moderate retention and a smattering of lacing.
T: Light char up front - rich dark caramel and vanilla dominate the palate - hint of phenols and very faint smoke, peaty, on the finish - medium-low bitterness, with a mossy and herbal accent.
P: Medium body with medium carbonation - finish is dry.
O: Very nice use of vanilla - it goes wonderfully with the dark caramel and slight smoke of the porter - a really good beer.
