Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers is a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right heat of smoked jalapeos (aka chipotles) that combines beautifully with the beers peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The idea came about in 2006 when Merchandise Manager Chris Carroll suggested we make a special "South of the Border Stone Smoked Porter" for Cinco de Mayo that year. One sip, and we were hooked!

[email protected] Deep ambery brown colour, small head. Aroma is chili, smoked wood, liquorice, earth and some mild burnt wet wopod. Flavour is quite similar in a nice balance. Quite a big burn in the finish, but not ruining the palate.

GBBF. Cask. Opaque brown beer. Small tan head. Mild dark malt. Minerals. Trace of chocolate. Big chilli burn starts in the mid and keeps going. Bearable! But this could have been good if they had backed of on the chilli a bit. And then a bit more!

Draught at Churchkey. This one had lots and lots of chipotle, not subtle at all, but certainly a genuine flavor that complements the smoke.

Bottle on the train to Portsmouth, IOW Jolly Day, from BD Online 24/08/14. Mahognay brown with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is roasted malt, brown bread, light cocoa, spice, not a huge aroma coming off this one. Taste comprises roasty tones, green pepper rub, spice, green chilli, dark toffee fudge, chocolate. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with subtle chilli heat. Decent enough chilli porter - well checked and not overpowering.
