Nice dark reddish-brown color, minimal head. Very light piney hop aroma present as in other stone brews, vanilla is noticeable on the nose but very subtle. Taste is roasty and smokey, with vanilla in the finish. IrishBoy (4223) - Bakersfield, California, USA - SEP 3, 2012
12 oz bottle from Bevmo Valencia. Nose is roast, vanilla, coffee, and light smoke. Clear brown with a small beige head. Flavor is peppery, rich vanilla, smoke, coffee, and a little bitterness. ilovedarkbeer (2744) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - SEP 3, 2012
Pours a black brown color with a foamy off white head. Notes of smoked grains, vanilla beans, brownies, and green hops. Feels a bit faded. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - SEP 2, 2012
12 oz. bottle. It pours brown with a light tan head. The aroma has strong notes of vanilla with some roasted malt and very light smoke. The flavor is definitely strong with sweet vanilla, but has some nice drier, roasted malt to balance. Not much smoke. The finish is again sweet with vanilla, but enjoyable. This kind of reminded me of Ballast Point Victory at Sea’s little brother. savnac (2391) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - SEP 2, 2012
12oz bottle. Dark brown with a spotty, foamy tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and light smoke. Flavor is lots of vanilla but not excessive, bittersweet chocolate and some light smoke. Medium body with a lush, rich mouth feel. Really great vanilla porter, the smoke is almost not even there but I really don’t care with this one. Excellent.

Bottle: Deep brown with auburn hues. Aroma is rich in roast, lightly smokey, and faint vanilla. Heavy roast up front with light cocoa and smoke; the vanilla really comes through in the tail. Probably the most prevalent and true vanilla flavor I can remember in any brew at this point. Not overwhelming, but certainly a stand alone flavor. Nice. jkwalking05 (4743) - Arlington, Texas, USA - SEP 1, 2012
Black with a decent beige head. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, rich soil, coffee grounds. travita (5006) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 1, 2012
Bottle. The look is clear, brown dark color, and a light tan head. The smell is vanilla, bean, pepper, smoke, chocolate, and sweet. The taste is sweet, charcol, bean, vanilla, and ashy. Sarlacc83 (2287) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 1, 2012
12oz bottle, drank on 8/28, reviewed from notes
A: Dull black with a rush of carbonation. Good cream color head recedes into bubble bath.
N: Coffee, charred smoke, There’s ample chocolate and a nice blend of vanilla beans. The smoke is the most prominent feature, however, as one might expect, and it tends towards a tobacco/cigar flavor rather than a cold campfire.
T: Chocolate and dry charred kindling. Tobacco and a minor amount of vanilla. There’s a bitter pine suggestion here from the hops. Not nearly as good as the nose.
M: Light and drinkable. Might have too little body, though.
O: An interesting beer that might not be as good out of the bottle as it has been when I’ve tried it on draft. Not particularly complex, but decently done. Cooperii (61) - California, USA - AUG 29, 2012
Poured a dark reddish brown with a dark tan head and good lacing. Nose; smoke, maple and wood come to me first, subtle hops and vanilla. Mouth; bitter wood, smokey maple with trailing hops, malts and subtle vanilla. Finish; interesting attempt, I think the smokeyness is there but the vanilla is light. Not my style of beer...but I think they accomplished what they were trying to. Try it once...at least.
