COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Mild dark coffee aroma. Very dark and nicely rich. Bitter chocolate flavor with a crisp finish. The "smoke" comes from the roasted malt, I guess. But it tastes nice, nevertheless. One of the better porters in my opinion.

I guess I'm just not a fan of smoked beers. Nice, thick porter. I do like the coffee taste, I just can't get past the smoke. Not my thing.

Very, very dark brown, with a dark tan head. If served very cold it is a good idea to let this sit for 5-10 minutes before drinking or the beer will have little flavor. If tasted at the right temperature, hints of coffe and chocolate are present. This is a great porter, and another good beer from Stone!

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2004 Very nice aroma (possibely the best part) of soft hints of cinnamon and ginger. These flavors did not appear in the taste at all. When colder the smokey flavor tastes grassy so only drink warm. The main taste is leather and smoke. A nice beer to try, wouldnt drink it every day

I've been really looking foward to this beer, and I'm a little bit dissapponited. I expected to smoke flavor to be a bit more organized. A good poter nonetheless.

Dark brown with dark amber hints. Shy smokiness with some chocolate undertones in the aroma. The beer starts with bitter chocolate, smoke passes by and roasted coffee ends the trip.
