COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Bottle, 22 oz. Pours black with a tan head. Smoky and roasty malt aroma with sweet dark fruit notes. The palate is met with sweet malt, then hops for a slightly bitter finish. I would have enjoyed some more smokiness, but its still good.

at first i was a bit intimidated... but it was really good... very dark with white head, and smells of chocolate and coffee.

Deep brown, thin mocha coloured head. Aroma: light wood smoke, cocoa, roasted malts. Taste: wood/bbq smoke, dark chocolate, bitter espresso, American hops, slighty woody. Finishes dry and bitter, with a hint of cigrarette smoke. Slightly watery palate, medium carbonation. Balanced and flavourful.

Bottle. Nice dark color, with a small tan head. Nice lacing, though. Aroma is smoke with a bit of malt. Taste is a smooth smoke flavor. Finishes smooth. A very nice porter, smooth yet with a bit of smoke bite.

A dark mahogany beer witha tan head. Definitely can smell the smokiness. Can taste burned malt with hints of bitter chocolate. Tastes less smokey than I anticipated. A solid porter but I felt liike it could have been better if it had more of a smokey flavor.

Very nice, with the smoke very much in the background. Really just enough to keep things interesting. Borderline stout, as it is pitch black and pretty smooth. Not really a SMOKED porter, but a smoked PORTER. It does tie the room together though.

Maybe I am spoiled by other brews, but this was pretty disheartening. No smoked flavor to be had, very thin body and thinner flavor. Malt/toast flavor, hint of alcohol warmth, and then, gone..... Bah! Perhaps it didnt get a chance to fully warm, but I tried to give it a proper chance.
Sampled at Rozis Wine & Liquor, Stone Tasting Event, Lakewood, OH.

Really nice porter. The smoke is not huge anywhere. The nose is espresso and chocolate. Color is black is a light head. Taste is coffee, chocolate and hints of smoke. Palate is very smooth and full bodied.

Lots of flavor! This is not for the faint hearted. There is plenty of chocolate and coffee notes in the flavor and the head/aroma is a thing of beauty.
