COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

I donít know if I got a bad batch or if my taste buds are a little flat today, but i remember this beer being more complex and more smokey the last time I had it. it tastes really bland for a stone beer. the smokiness is muted and it tastes a little watery. itís still a good beer though with good chocolate and coffee notes

Loved this beer. One of the lightest Porters I have tasted. Light malty nose with a hint of smoke. On the palate are flavors of toasted malt, dark chocolate with just a touch of smoke. I like that the smoke is light and really enhances the beer instead of becoming the only taste component. Dry and slightly bitter finish.

Aroma very reminiscent of Guiness, though color is lighter. Smokiness really brings out the flavors of smoked meat (pepperoni) and cheese (smoked mozarella). Beer disappears from glass very quickly.

Average looking porter, brown head, dark body with a reddish tint. Soft malty aroma. Fairly complex flavor, starts ever so slightly malty, then ends in a somewhat bitter finish. There is a wonderful smoking undertone to the whole mouthful. I would love to try this again in front of a winter fire.

This one is a little too bitter for me and otherwise low on flavor. The body is also a little thin and fleeting. This beer just generally doesnít stand out or impress me.

Dark, rich brown in color with creamy head (almost nitro-quality) with lovely lacing. Deep & malty chocolate aroma with mild hop notes. Subtle smoky flavor that builds with time. Hoppier than many Porters. Very sweet and full in the mouth. Burnt chocolate on the tongue and drier than expected finish. Mild smoky tendrils that caress your nose and the back of your throat like a forgotten lover who returns only in the deepest of dreams. Very nicely balanced. A stellar beer.

Nice brown head that didnít have a lot of retention. The aroma is dominated (of course) by a nice brick smokehouse type smell. The chocolate and coffee are there but overpowered. The chocolate seems to come out a bit more in the flavor and thatís good because I donít generally like my smoked porters to taste like beef jerky. The mouthfeel was rather thin for a porter and the finish was quick and uneventfull. I was happy with this beer as far as the style goes but wouldnít go out of my way for it. This is the best Smoked Porter Iíve ever had. Unfortunately, that list isnít very distinguished.

The Stone Smoked Porter pours almost black with a fluffy light brown head, but embodies a very red hue when you hold it up to a light. The flavors of smoke and roasted malt are more subtle than I would have expected, especially from Stone co. but the beer is more drinkable than I expected too. A pleasant porter.

Pours a beautiful ebony color, inpenerable by light. Nice finger size tan head, respectable lace for the remainder of the glass. Smells of chocolate, coffee, fire malt and smoke. Taste is full, with the coffee and roasted malt up front, thinning to a nice solid medium hop finish that has a slight smokey tingle towards the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel is a strong medium. Nice bold, pungent porter with relentless charcoal and wood undertones. This porter is bold but smooth. Firey!

not a huge fan of porters personally. this one does have a unique smoked flavor that is quite enjoyable. the bistro makes an outstanding smoked porter bbq sauce that i’m sure would be good on just about anything! yum
