The malts and hops are both delicate and light. Taste of light body coffee with a touch of a smoked chocolate. This is much milder in taste than in aroma. Would work in harmony with grilled fish. Enjoyed from a snifter. brokephibroke (315) - Mead, Colorado, USA - AUG 19, 2008
Deep brown red pour with a large tannish thick head. Smoke and metalic nose. Taste of smoke and coffee, quite light in palate. sstackho (249) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 22, 2008
22oz bottle, purchased somewhere in Boston for $5. Consumed during the month of its best before date. Pours very dark with minimal head. Nice lacing though. All malt aroma of medium strength. The first sip gives an initial peppery sensation. The peppery sensation remains throughout. Nice malty flavours, with some coffee tastes thrown in the mix.

Re-rate 2/12: Bottle sample at a Stouts & Porters blind tasting at Sar HaMashkaot Ramat Gan. 2 months after BBD. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted grains, a bit of coffee and light smoked wood notes. Sweetish roasty flavor with light acidity, continues drier, finishes bitter. Medium-bodied. 6/3/6/3/12=3
(11/3/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Escondido. Transparent dark brown color. Aroma of roasted malt, some smoked meat and a bit of coffee. Malty flavor with some smoke, roastiness and some chocolate hints. Medium-bodied. 7/3/7/3/14=3.4
UPDATED: NOV 15, 2009 The aroma is of chocolate, dried apples, beech wood, faint sulphur, coffee, seaweed, sugar and spciy/herbal hops. Smooth taste with a lot raisins and beech wood showing up. Sweet. Very faintly smoky. Decent bitterness. Poor lacework. Some seaweed sneaking in. Pleasant. A bit sour. Medium bodied. Residual sugars, beech wood and caramel in the finish. A bit dissapointing. Thanks a lot nearbeer! That1Guy (2236) - Colorado, USA - JAN 28, 2009
Crushed with Jakebra. Little transparent. Definitely not dark enough. Creamy, full mouthfeel. Strange that it’s smoked, because the smokiness is subdued. Most smoked I look for bacon flavor. Not here, but it’s also pretty damn good, so I can’t hold that against it too much. Plamadude30k (122) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - FEB 26, 2009
A rather good porter with a bit of smokey flavor. Hints of chocolate, licorice, some dark fruit. Very enjoyable. Birdiebeagle (958) - Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 1, 2009
Bottle Pours a deep almost black with a big tan creamy head. The head lasts pretty well. Has a very subtle aroma of caramel, and a smokey burntness. Has a slightly mustiness about it. Has a very mild taste. Definetly can feel the smoked part. Nice mouthfeel , low carbination and a touch watery. Blending is fairly good. Lacks some depth but is a pretty good beer.
