COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Re-rate 6/4/12: Bottle sample at beerandbeyond farewell tasting at Dagans place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Dark brown with a beige head. Roasted malt, smoke, meat. Very smoky finish. 7/4/7/3/14=3.5

Re-rate 2/12: Bottle sample at a Stouts & Porters blind tasting at Sar HaMashkaot Ramat Gan. 2 months after BBD. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted grains, a bit of coffee and light smoked wood notes. Sweetish roasty flavor with light acidity, continues drier, finishes bitter. Medium-bodied. 6/3/6/3/12=3

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2009 The aroma is of chocolate, dried apples, beech wood, faint sulphur, coffee, seaweed, sugar and spciy/herbal hops. Smooth taste with a lot raisins and beech wood showing up. Sweet. Very faintly smoky. Decent bitterness. Poor lacework. Some seaweed sneaking in. Pleasant. A bit sour. Medium bodied. Residual sugars, beech wood and caramel in the finish. A bit dissapointing. Thanks a lot nearbeer!

Crushed with Jakebra. Little transparent. Definitely not dark enough. Creamy, full mouthfeel. Strange that its smoked, because the smokiness is subdued. Most smoked I look for bacon flavor. Not here, but its also pretty damn good, so I cant hold that against it too much.

650ml bottle. It pours a nice dark brown with some reddish hues, the head is thick and foamy. The head is slightly tan. It holds for a bit then recedes to some pretty nice lacing. It smells like an IPA with some brown sugar thrown in, Stone loves their hops huh. There is a hint of roastiness but much less than expected. The flavor isnt hoppy bitter, but it has a considerable amount of hop flavor. There is also a hint of smokiness and some caramel sweetness. It is a bit mixed up but overall it is a decent brew. yackery (168) - California, USA - APR 1, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2011 Pours a sandy head - though dissolving, persists in roiling up for a minute - resulting in a fine layer over a very dark, cloudy, red-oil colored body with a spectacular forest of columns of a continuing event of effervescence under a lacing that leaves a line at the level of the body of the beer before the last quaff. Smokey-fish-stew-in-metal-pot aroma with definite coffee notes. Very mild. Smoked-salt, bitter taste like black coffee. Palate first feels a little creamy but is quick, fizzy, clean: thin, light, and with an abrupt finish except for a lingering bitterness. Needs to breathe or age but is a good-tasting beer.

On draught. Pours an extremely dark (almost black) brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of smoke, chocolate and vanilla. I was afraid the smoke flavor would overpower the beer (that is the case with many of the smoked bears I have had), but it didnt. The smoke blended in very well with the rest of the flavor profile. Not sure if Ill have this one again, but it was better than I thought it would be.

Pours opaque black. Nose is beef jerky and smoke. Flavor is some roasted malt, coffee, and tons of smoked meat, bacon, and jerky. The mouthfeel was rather thin and the flavor lacked much complexity. Smoked meat and jerky really dominate everything. Not bad, but also not exciting, and hard to finish a whole bomber.

Pours black from tap with an inch of brown head. Slight smoked notes on the nose. I get a bit of coffee on the tongue but its a bit faint. Finishes dry which i like. Not my favorite Stone.

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2012 Nice, smoky aroma of roasted malts with some sweet chocolate and subtle hops. This beer pours a thin black that lets some light through. The palate is sufficiently carbonated, if a bit thin, and the flavor is mostly bitter from all the smoke/roast and, less noticeably, from the hops. I was really expecting more character out of this, but the taste notes die out rather quickly, with only the smokiness lingering for a while. Very nice, but not game-changing.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, beige head. Aroma and flavor of roasted malts, coffee and some very light smoke. Slightly chalky finish. The smokiness is very light, but not a bad porter.
