COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

650ml bottle, no freshness date. Almost pitch black with a bubbly and thick mocha-coloured head that leaves a lacy ring around the edges. Lots of chocolate on the nose, caramel, light vanilla. Taste is full of roasted malt and dark chocolate with a slight hoppy bitterness and a charred, smoky and ashy finish. Palate is creamy and smooth but a little light. Medium carbonation. Pretty nice.

Solid porter. Heavily roasted coffee, light pleasant smoke character, some bitter coffee. Tastes bitter and kinda watery. Thin body, I suppose a porter should be. Looks beautiful - dark brown with a ruby tinge and a light khaki head with fantastic retention and lacing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A bomber at home. Toasty, oaky aroma. Beautiful dark mocha color, caramel head, wispy lacing. Taste is light porter goodness. Carb level just right. Nutty aftertaste. Enjoyed.

Pours black. White lacey head. Aroma is faint smoke. Taste is smokey bitterness, followed by faint sweetness. Crisp. Easy drinking. Nice but not outstanding.

This is the "plain" version...good on its own.. but chipotle was best...good tasty flavor and smooth

Bottle. Pours a dark opaque brown with two fingers tan/light brown head. Settles to thick pillowy cap in minutes. Aroma is mildly smoky, dark malt and roasted malt, definite chocolate, bitter. Flavor is mildly smoky and roasted with significant bitterness. Mildly roasty and chocolate finish with a bitter, mildly fruity finish. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. A high quality beer but I am a little dissapointed with the flavor, they should have upped the smokiness or at least toned down the bitter a little.

Keg at Euston Tap, 13th March 2013. Good smoked porter, not worthy of the price tag in London though. Still enjoyable and tasty

Light aroma of coffee, cocoa, and a slight bit of peat. Good head with tiny bubbles that leaves only an upper ring of lacing. Flavors are coffee and some cocoa; not much peat. Light bitterness in the final stage that lingers well in the aftertaste. Light to medium body. Good - not great - porter.

Draft at Stone tap takeover at Crunchy's. Smells like smoke...Tastes like - malt, chocolate and, wait for it, a ton of smoke.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2013 Moderate aggressive pour. Huge head of coffee/mocha brown. Very nice lacing. Jet black beer. Arome is full of light smoke notes and some malts and yeast. Smoke balances well with yeast and malt which is apparent on the finish of the nose. Moderate body on palate, but expected a bigger body for a porter. Hop character overpowers on mid sip. Also bitters overpower on the finish. Carbonation on tongue offers unplesant bitter character. Hints of malt and yeast on initial sip, but quickly replaced with bitter hop taste. Very little smoke character noticeable throughout the tasting. Also very slight smoke flavor essence near the finish. Wouldja - No.
