March 6th, 2015 - Before it was the stochasticity project, this was simply Stone's Master of Disguise. Furiously red and almost orange, it looks like an angry beer, and the aroma seems to confirm my suspicions. Spicy and with some chili and vegetal elements, it has enough malt to support the exotic scents. A little marshmallow sweetness binds all the aromas together, letting the paradox of a blonde stout precipitate into reality. The flavor is more emphatically a stout, with a sticky and foamy palate, and abundant malt in the body. A graham cracker sweetness feels very appropriate here too, with a slight hop touch that lasts well into the aftertaste. It's a curious style, and no doubt the product of a drunken dare (or an adventurous conversation at a brew club) but the result speaks for itself: spectacular in its self-contradiction. thepatrickman (1503) - Lewes, East Sussex, ENGLAND - OCT 6, 2017
What do you say when someone does something bonkers, but does it really well? If you close your eyes, it almost tastes like a stout -- the coffee notes are there, and it has a nice mouth feel -- but something still tastes chemically and a little strange for a stout. But I still have to hand it bonus points for creativity, as well as a really great execution. dorain (824) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUL 9, 2017
Draft @ Stone Calm Before the Storm 2017. Pours a hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty chocolate aroma. Fruity malty chocolate and coffee flavor. Has a fruity malty chocolate and coffee finish. daleharshman (1089) - Escondido, California, USA - FEB 6, 2017
Bomber purchased a bit over two years ago at the brewery in Escondido ($7.25). POURS a very hazy rusty dark orange hue with minimal layer of white foam and notable yeastie-floaties. AROMA of young coffee roastiness, Hershey’s cocoa powder, with some vanilla and toasted malts. FLAVOR is indeed fairly stout-y with notes of dark coffee roastiness, cocoa powder, and caramel malts. Finishes with some lingering coffee roast. The high ABV is utterly concealed. So Stone actually pulled this off -- in a (literally) blind taste test, I would be shocked to see the color of the actual beer I had sampled here. Okay as an experiment in brewing (and the coffee is of a good quality), but not so nuanced as the stout qualities are derived from adjuncts rather than roasted malts. Still, it has held up the 2+ years that it has been in my cellar and it’s quite drinkable still. (332, 1059)

Pours little hazy dark gold-amber with nice white head. Coffee and roasty aromas, some malty ones. Medium body, average carbonation, oily texture. Taste is quite roasty, coffee, malty, spicy. A bit dry, ands hot, warming alcohol mouthfeel, Very peculiar, enjoyable.
Bottle. Pours clear orange, small off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma is coffee, cocoa, vanilla. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, heavy coffee, cocoa nibs, hints of vanilla here as well. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Better than I expected for sure. MaBeer1972 (2233) - Reno, Nevada, USA - MAY 21, 2016
On tap at Mated Barley in Providence. Served in a tulip. A deep golden amber color with a frothy off white head. Interesting roasty aromas and flavors with a smooth light sweetness. Quite drinkable. Long bitter finish. kathouse (1942) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - MAY 14, 2016
Cloudy gold and white foam. Chocolate and a smokey vanilla aroma. Can tell this is not a true stout but a good beer.
