colui72 (1190) - HONG KONG - FEB 20, 2018
2016 Series - Batch #2 Pours very dark brown, creamy, visible smooth carbonation, large tan head with excellent lacing. Aroma is strong ale malts and even stronger bourbon and wood. Tastes moderately bitter, very fruity, sweet ale malts, strong on vanilla. bourbon, whiskey and wood, ripe fruits. Warming booze, not too IPAish, which is good, this is much classier. Smooth, excellent mouthfeel, full bodied, long finish. Excellence is here.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2018 Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Third of these Stone barrel aged series - this one sounded interesting but I was dissuaded by ratings. Glad I tried it eventually though. Dark nearly opaque super dark brown pour with sudsy light tan head that sticks to the glass and persists in a 1mm float. Aroma is rich earthy hops - surprisingly fresh black IPA smell. Not much barrel aging present on aroma but some vanilla booziness. Taste is huge bitter black IPA bite - dark chocolate and roasted coffee with alcohol burn, some wood and vanilla. Rich but not heavy palate. Burn on the finish. Delicious. What you’d expect based on the description - do not be turned off by good not great reviews. If you like black IPAs this is definitely worth a try.

Bottle, 5cl sample @Beershoppen, Kolding. Pours deep opaque black with a small, staying creamy beige film head. Aroma has lots of smoky malts, sweet vanilla, roasted, mild citrussy notes. Medium to low carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has sweet malts, sticky caramel, mild chocolate, oak, vanilla, vinious. Quite sharpish bitter finish with some oak and vanilla.

1/8/2017 -- from notes: 500ml bottle, shared with Steph. Pours black with a good light tan head leaving fantastic lace. Very interesting, tasty flavor here. Thankfully the hop is still very much prominent, a nice big earthiness and pine, touch of grapefruit. Big bitterness, just a hint of a sweet bite from the moderate-plus malt sweetness. Hint of butterscotch, good rye whiskey touch offering burnt wood, some spiciness and a little bit of warmth on the end. Bigger body, some chewiness. Little roast malt, touch of licorice. Very interesting, nice, fun stuff to try. Wouldn't want to drop the money on another bottle, though.

Pours a nice creamy, beige head. Being a huge fan of the original, I was hoping I’d like this much more, but I think I really would like this fresher and not at it’s current 14 months since bottled date. I am currently trying to find a 2017 version to compare. Nose is old Self-Righteous and some chocolate. Taste is better with notes of pine, Twizzlers black licorice, whiskey barrel, citrus tones, oak and grass in the finish. Overall, good, but not as good as a fresh original. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a white head. Aroma of minty leaves tropical, slight dusty, light vanilla, loads of grapefruit, slight pine. Taste is rather bitter, pine and herbal. Good stuff.
