>> Stone SSRA with Birdrock Coffee Roasters Nicaraguan coffee added. Not making a new entry. Clear deep brown pour, thicker dark brown lace. Nose is rich tiramisu, fresh toasted macadamia. Taste is silky, toasted macadamia, mild roast derived acid, powerful but soft non-astringent coffee. Easy 4.0. Excellent.

Quite a unique experience, like a hoppy espresso ale, funky brownie flavor, touch of brown sugar, low carbonation. Nice kick from the caffeine/hop combo @[email protected]
On tap at Dark Lord Day 2013, served in a tasting glass. Pours black with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of lace. On the nose, there is HUGE espresso, along with roasted malts, earth, grass, subtle molasses and smoke. The flavour is moderately bitter with big coffee notes, toasted malts, smoke and molasses. Towards the end it becomes more bitter with resin and some pine. The finish is long and hoppy, with pine and resin. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent variant of a great brew, but the espresso dominates a bit too much, upsetting the balance of the original. The hops also seem more bitter and less aromatic. On tap at Stone Company Store in Oceanside. Deep mahogany color with black center and fine beige head. Aroma is smoke, peat wet earth and ground espresso coffee beans. Flavor transitions between sweet roasted malt, coffee bitterness and piney hops. Finish is weird with two different flavors lending to the bitterness, competing between espresso and hops. Almost makes it less bitter and more vegetable-like. Interesting, not really my thing.

Darker than the regular Sublime, this beer exudes more espresso than that from the dark malts. This pairs well with the citrus hops. Draft at blue monk, medium bodied black pour. Minor lacing. Coffee and slight peppery aroma. Flavor is coffee dominant with little showing of base. Big espresso roast upfront dominates rest of flavor profile. Bitterness from base beer seems lost. Draft at Tustin Brewing. Pours a deep black with little to no tan head. Aroma is licorice, slight espresso and cocoa. Taste is more licorice that overwhelms and makes this barely drinkable. The espresso beans don’t really work here for me and the hops aren’t really here to help it out.
