It’s interesting to taste this beer, it’s boozy, hoppy and has a lingering bitterness to it. It also has a bit of an oily texture, pretty good, not a 100 though. Christpuncher (3135) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 23, 2013
A very dark beer that would make you think it is a stout. Nicely bitter and hoppy. Once again stone always makes a great product

Heavily skewed towards the hop end. Bitter, lots of clear additions. It’s great but I think there’s a bit of stones reputation figuring into that 100 rating. Not too balanced, but a nice bite with a hint of roasted malt. chucklemation (1719) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - APR 26, 2014
Pours a black color with a foamy white head. Has a very nice pine aroma, that seems to be mixes with some spice. Taste is pine, sweet, mild bitterness, and some spice. Very good, but seems a tad off for some reason I can’t put my finger on. Wouldn’t hesitate to have another though. real_ale_ity (4) - - MAY 5, 2014 does not count
We were at a charity concert. Ice hot jalfrezi cordial, no jalfrezi flavour. A toothache on heroin; a millionaire in prison. Liquorice and aphid milkshake.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with reddish highlights. Tan head. Aroma is sweet fruity hops, small roast and grain. Flavor is slightly roasty underneath a fruity hop blanket. Sweet finish.

Tap at G Man FW. Very dark black pour with a huge froathy head. Appears light bodied though. Aroma is fat hops, with a sharp element to it. Almost a perfumy sense. Big hop flavor as well with a metallic bitter tinge. Very intense flavor. Finishes dry, bitter and heavy. Holy crap there is a lot of hop in this for a dark ale. Crazy.
A wonderful brown ale. Immediate flavor of malt with a slight chocolate undertone finishes with a lighting mild malt flavor for a few minutes. Deep flavor that almost melts.

Hop aroma mix with a chocolate almost cocoa aroma in this black brew with a tan head of tiny bubble. The taste is choc syupy hops with a good combo of sweet and bitter. The aftertaste of this medium bodied brew is bitter and you get a bit of burn from the almost %9keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - JUN 9, 2014

A bitter hoppy smell with a bit of chocolate. The color is black with a medium head. The taste is malty and bitter with a bit of chocolate notes and a bitter and hoppy aftertaste. This brew had a meduim body and a crisp feel.

Appearance: The body appears black but through light a deep clear garnet hue is shown. The tan head explodes from the body with excellent retention.
Aroma: Piney and grapefruit immediately with prominent roast, sweet malts and caramel. Very nice smelling actually, nicely balanced and enticing.
Taste: Caramel and chocolate are prominent up front, but not huge in flavor. Overlying the malt base is a piney/earthy mild to moderate bitterness. Dark chocolate and raisins are on the finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, mild to moderate carbonation.
Overall: A little past date, but Stone puts such short enjoy by dates anyway. This tastes a tad oxidized, but overall it’s very nice. I’ll try this fresher for sure.
Malty hop aroma. Taste is dark roasty malt, coffee and caramel. Nice hop flavor across the top. Moderate bitter finish. Excellent beer.
