On tap: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and a hint of smoke (could be power of suggestion). It’s a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts with chocolate, black licorice, and a touch of caramel. The finish has mild vanilla and a touch oak and smoke. On draft at GABF 2012. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Nose is smoke, molasses, roasted malts, dark chocolate, and some mild vanilla, bourbon, and oak notes, but not enough to give away the barrel aging. Growler fill via Stone Store Pasadena. Nose is mostly bourbon, hints of toffee, coffee, caramel. Pour is very dark, moderate carbonation, light lacing. Definitely a monster of a porter. Palate is bourbon, coffee, hops, and dark malts. Alcohol is definitely present in this one. Very interesting brew and would love to see how this would turn out in 6 months, and then a year.

Draft at the Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Pours dead black with a foamy tan head. Aroma is so bourbon. Med + body. The flavor is so bourbon. There’s some malt/hop stuff - maybe. On tap at The Bistro BA Festival. Pours reddish brown with a modest beige head and a bourbon and treacle aroma. There is a very bourbon flavor over a nice darkl malt base.

Growler thanks to richiesd. Pours a clear, deep ruby to black. Little carbonation. Nose is strawberry, cheese, chocolate, blueberry. Taste is sweet strawberry, dark chocolate, mild cocoa butter slickness. Lemon tea finish- tart. Not as heavy as you would expect. Barrel character low. Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a mahogany looking body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sort of sticky sugary prunes, sweet malts, a little bit of musty earthiness and then it gets both nutty and molasses like. The taste is rich delivering an almost black strap molasses like sweetness and spiciness to go along with dark roasted malts. It then flows into sweet prune like esters and then lingering roastiness into the finish as well as a touch of booze. Nice rich brew. DrunkenHobbit (4) - Carbondale, USA - OCT 29, 2012 does not count
Pours a deep blackish-brown, not quite as heavy as the KBS but still substantial. Aromas of bourbon and vanilla with some nice smokey accents. As soon as it hits the mouth, you know you’ve made a good choice. The roasted malts and smoke pair perfectly with the bourbon. Finishes smoothly with hints of caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Dark brown pour. Several samples at GABF. Loads of aromas here!! Smile, tar, bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, roast. Smoke and bourbon never tasted so good together. Awesome.
