3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler fill via Stone Store Pasadena. Nose is mostly bourbon, hints of toffee, coffee, caramel. Pour is very dark, moderate carbonation, light lacing. Definitely a monster of a porter. Palate is bourbon, coffee, hops, and dark malts. Alcohol is definitely present in this one. Very interesting brew and would love to see how this would turn out in 6 months, and then a year.
If I could find it again..
Growler pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is bourbon, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, smoke. Flavor is roasty, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, medium sweet, fairly complex. Full feel, lower carbonation. Good stuff. arminjewell (9727) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 17, 2015
Pour on tap, hazy dark brownish pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big sweet vanilla, molasses, and dark fruit into bourbon, oak, slight spice into a hint of woody, tannic, smoke notes, some slight toasted bread. Taste was a mix of oak, vanilla, bourbon into sweet dark fruit, toffee, molasses into a bit of smoke, some spice, grass, finishing sweet. peteinSD (1468) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 12, 2014
Tap @ Stone O’Side. Dark brown/near black pour with an off-white head. Deep bourbon, vanilla, molasses, dates, marshmallow and light background chocolate in the aroma. Wow! Firestone Walker level barrel aging. Taste is dominated by the bourbon, vanilla, alcohol spice, and chewy marshmallow - underneath there’s some chocolate and dark malt. Coating mouthfeel. Good one. On tap at Cheeky Monk. Pour is murky brown with a small tan head and good lacing. Big bourbon, woody, cocoa, figgy, dates, dark fruity, bready, and coffee in the aroma. Taste is big raisins, figs, light alcohol, roasted malt - no real smoke - caramel, brown sugar, oak, and earthiness with a light burn on the backend. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Nice stuff. alexsdad06 (11223) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JAN 3, 2014
Draft to taster at FoBAB ’13. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, smoked malts, mild peat, mild bourbon, touches of vanilla and wood. Not crazy big, and may have suffered a bit compared to some of the other beers we were tasting around it.

Draft to taster at FoBAB 2013, pours opaque dark brown. Nose light roast, sweet malt and mild bourbon. Taste some sweet but slightly watery. Some mid smoky peat. Very subtle bourbon. A little light in the current company.

Hazy dark nutty brown, nearly black, with a thin foamy light tan head. The nose is immediately a bit chocolaty but transitions to a slightly spicy tortilla dough tone and some bourbon. The flavor is like a winter spice ale, totally out of nowhere for where the aroma was. Nice dark sweet malts with a bit of Christmas spices like clove and cinnamon, a bit of raisin, and doughiness with some bourbon twinged caramel on the back end. Very balanced, oddly enough, with a small touch of bitterness throughout, without much hoppy flavor, leaving way for dark Christmas like maltiness and a smooth undercurrent of light bourbon. And is that a light touch of coffee in the finish?! Very, very good. phaleslu (10898) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 19, 2013
Draft sample at FOBAB 2013. Pours a cloudy, deep brown color with a huge, frothy beige head. Notes of dark fruits, roasted and toasted and faintly smoked malts, spice, chocolate, vanilla, and oak. Medium-bodied, with moderate soft carbonation and a roasty mouthfeel. Solid beer. crossovert (14134) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 17, 2013
Kind of a meher for me, smokiness isn’t huge, bourbon adds a nice bit of caramel. zizzybalubba (1891) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - OCT 16, 2013
On tap at the barrel-aged tasting at World Of Beer-Cherry Creek in Denver, CO during GABF week. Dark brown, almost black, pour with a thin khaki head. Aroma of vanilla, coconut, chocolate, and oak. Beautifully balanced flavor of German chocolate cake, coffee, oak, and faint floral hops. A perfect blended beer and very, very well done.
