Smells of alcohol, raisins, and sherry. The most complicated palate of any beer I’ve ever tried. Tastes of raisins, wood, alcohol, and leather. Fades to bitterness with aftertaste of leather and dried fruit. This is a beer for those who like Scotch. Really impressive stuff if you’re up for a challenge to your palette. Pours dark brown. Medium smokiness with a strong malty and musty character. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Sampled at the Bistro 7th Annual Barrel Aged Festival on 11/10/2012. This Imperial Porter pours a dark brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, smoky, bourbon and sweet. A medium bodied Imperial Porter. The malts are chocolate, coffee and slightly smoky. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice carbonation. Nice bourbon flavors. A touch of smoke, a touch of vanilla. Very smooth. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - MAY 21, 2012
Tap at Slater’s 50/50 Liberty Station. Clear deep ruby edges, black body and a two finger medium beige head, great retention. Milk chocolate nose with some smoky campfire and roasted char beneath. Flavor follows suit with some spicy alcohol heat, but just enough to let you know this is a bigger beer. Dry finish, bitterness at a 3. Not burnt or ashy at all, hooray. Medium full body with low creamy carbonation. Very nice. Not too burnt or roasty, not too heavy on the smoke, either. Pretty much the flavor profile I like in porters and stouts.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV on 10/12/2012. Pours a very dark brown with some amber around the edges and a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoky with some sweet malt in the background. Medium-bodied with a smoky character and notes of charred malt and hops. The finish is oaky with a bit of coffee left behind. Good overall. daleharshman (1064) - Escondido, California, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Growler fill from brewery. Pours a dark brown hue with some nice reddish-garnet highlights. The three fingers of frothy tan foam have good resilience and leave good lacing. Aroma of creamy chocolate, dark coffee, campfire, and charred wood. Flavor has notes of dark roasted malts, smooth smoke, ashy campfire-cooked meat, creamy coffee, very dark chocolate, and some light fruit (artificial grape flavoring stands out). Finishes with both a subtle sweetness and some mild roasty-coffee bitterness. Not as full bodied as I might have thought, and the rather high ABV is completely hidden. As with Stone’s regular Smoked Porter, the smoke is certainly there but does not overpower (indeed, this is not a rauchbier). Quite nice, and for a good cause. On tap at Flanny’s. Pours jet black. Somewhat subtle nose of smoky wood, charcoal, roasted malt, and a touch of bourbon. Very sweet forward with slightly smoky bitterness to finish with a hint of licorice in the middle. Extremely dry, medium palate. A lovely brew. beerisgoodforu (992) - Nørresundby, DENMARK - JUN 19, 2012
