2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
murky brown with a thin dissipating tan head. not the head you get from a carefully fermented and mashed german beer. cherry, chocolate and light nail polish remover aroma. flavour all happens up the front of the mouth: quite sour and thin, with some underlying chocolate and cloying sweetness. dry, quick finish just when you want the malt richness. mediocre stuff typical of a lot of aussie micros. and also typical of aussie micros, overpriced: more expensive than schlenkerla urbock!!!
From S&W 2012, Stone swing top and cellar stored. Burgundy in colour, 20mm head drops to 5mm firm and clingy. Rich in fruit, raisins, sweet, vanilla, Turkish Delight, chocolate, a little coffee, smokey dry hardwood. What a sensational beer with a food paring of hearty beef and veges crock pot and a tiramisu, sadly my only one. Memorable! fonefan (49293) - VestJylland, DENMARK - JAN 30, 2014

Taster, GBBF 2013, passed on to me by harrisoni. Many thanks. Jet black, faint beige head, spotty lacing. Chocolate malt on the nose, dry. Chocolate, wood and dust hoppy flavours. Smooth dark bitter ending. Enjoying (London Olympia 14.08.2014). madmitch76 (24806) - , Essex, ENGLAND - AUG 31, 2013

50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity, dark malty and caramelish. Mild sourish, milky and toasted malty. Fruity. harrisoni (18578) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - AUG 14, 2013
Bottle at Gbbf 2013. Black beer thin tan head. Decent dark beer not great but ok some roast malt. hawthorne00 (3945) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUN 9, 2013
2013 version. Dark brown with loose inch of beige head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of chocolate fudge, vanilla, pepper, prunes. Very silky mouthfeel. Sweet fudgy chocolate, prunes, cherries; light floral and spice notes lift away the sweetness until modest bitterness and pepper remain. Cuddly and subtle. pmuzz (400) - AUSTRALIA - JUN 4, 2013
Probably the best S&W I have tried. Nice balanced and gentle beer. Slight hint of roast that lingers. Not a bad effort. CitrusP (66) - Newcastle, AUSTRALIA - NOV 28, 2012
On tap at The Albion. Poured a very dark brown to black colour with a small but lingering head. Lots of woody and ashy smoke and chocolate in the aroma. Smoke comes through in the flavour without being dominating. well balanced. Small to moderate amount of carbonation. Extremely easy to drink and very nice overall.
