Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 16 November 2013. Poured a clear dark ruby colour, near black with a dense beige head. Aroma of cocoa, dark malt and grain. Medium to full bodied mouth feel. Dark chocolate flavours with grassy hops and toffee sweetness. Finish was dry grains, burnt sugar and hop resin. Pretty nice for a pint of cask at Spoons... stravale (3145) - Co. Westmeath, IRELAND - NOV 23, 2013

Very dark ruby, thin tan head, some lacing
Taste of dark caramel malts, roasted malts, light soft smoked malts, some roast coffee, getting some dark fruits, dab of liquorice, quite complex flavour
Palate - Medium body, smooth texture, quite oily. Finish of soft bitter roast, some more nice tangy dark berry fruits come out in the finish, soft smoke
Overall - Decent porter/old ale hybrid.
Dark with a small head and well smoked in its aroma and partly in its taste too. Has a slight peat character about it. WeissGary (290) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - OCT 14, 2013
Cask. JDW Counting House, Glasgow, Scotland. Interesting beer, quite jamy upfront with a smokey finish, brilliant sweet and dark beer! BlackHaddock (7956) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - OCT 9, 2013
Hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons Pub on 9th Oct 2013.
Not as smokey as I thought it would be, not as full bodied either: but OK none-the-less.
Pours a very dark ruby red/brown, almost black really, on top a deep creamy tanned head of level foam.
The nose and taste intermingled: over roasted malts gave a semi-burnt chocolate cake sort of smell and flavour with a smoked ham wrapped within the cake mix.
Body wise it lacked depth, but overall not a bad beer.

Cask handpull at Thomas Ingoldsby Canterbury JDW. Almost black beer with thin beige head. Decent dark beer slightly old ale style with roast and a sour dark fruits element to it. Decent condition. Ok. I quite like the sour hints to it. Tarry DruncanVeasey (8401) - Nr NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - SEP 9, 2013
The Felix Holt, Nuneaton, 05/09/13. Mahogany, almost black, with a very tenacious grey-tan collar. Nose chocolate orange mousse and smoked sausage. Full with coal and sausage. Dark berry undercurrents. Good bitter smoked afters with raisin and cocoa. Very decent. Niall73 (2459) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 8, 2013
Cask at Wetherspoons. Pours a very dark brown/red with an off white head. Aroma is toasty and treacly. Body light to medium but a bit on the thin side. It is smokey, and treacly and toasty. Nice burnt sugar bitterness. OK.

Draught. This is a good slow pint for a cold night. Deep malt sweetness with only a hint of bitterness. worldbeertaste (1819) - West Midlands, ENGLAND - DEC 3, 2011
Dark chocolate brown colour and some red elements with a tan head. Smokey malt smell. Light body with a smooth creamy feel. Starts a little sweet and frutiy with a strong full chestnut taste with a slight chocolate roast. Smokey and spicy aftertaste.
