COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Seasonal - Winter. Previously regular.
Brewed at OG 1048 and ABV 5.0%. A delightful, warming, dark porter type ale, with a roasted malt taste and a hint of liquorice surrounding a developing bitter flavour. Very appealing to the eye.

Dark with a small head and well smoked in its aroma and partly in its taste too. Has a slight peat character about it.

Cask. JDW Counting House, Glasgow, Scotland. Interesting beer, quite jamy upfront with a smokey finish, brilliant sweet and dark beer!

Hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons Pub on 9th Oct 2013. Not as smokey as I thought it would be, not as full bodied either: but OK none-the-less. Pours a very dark ruby red/brown, almost black really, on top a deep creamy tanned head of level foam. The nose and taste intermingled: over roasted malts gave a semi-burnt chocolate cake sort of smell and flavour with a smoked ham wrapped within the cake mix. Body wise it lacked depth, but overall not a bad beer.

Cask handpull at Thomas Ingoldsby Canterbury JDW. Almost black beer with thin beige head. Decent dark beer slightly old ale style with roast and a sour dark fruits element to it. Decent condition. Ok. I quite like the sour hints to it. Tarry

The Felix Holt, Nuneaton, 05/09/13. Mahogany, almost black, with a very tenacious grey-tan collar. Nose chocolate orange mousse and smoked sausage. Full with coal and sausage. Dark berry undercurrents. Good bitter smoked afters with raisin and cocoa. Very decent.

Cask at Wetherspoons. Pours a very dark brown/red with an off white head. Aroma is toasty and treacly. Body light to medium but a bit on the thin side. It is smokey, and treacly and toasty. Nice burnt sugar bitterness. OK. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught. This is a good slow pint for a cold night. Deep malt sweetness with only a hint of bitterness.

Dark chocolate brown colour and some red elements with a tan head. Smokey malt smell. Light body with a smooth creamy feel. Starts a little sweet and frutiy with a strong full chestnut taste with a slight chocolate roast. Smokey and spicy aftertaste.

Pint at the Old Manor in Bracknell. Decent light brown head on a black beer with red highlights. Nice chocolate malt aroma. Smokey hit on the palate but also some cooked chocolate malt. Very tastey. A cross between brooklyn chocolate stout and Sclenkerla rauchbier. One of the better UK beers Ive had recently.

Cask at the John Logie Baird (JDW), Hastings. Chocolate brown in colour with a loose tan head; chocolate aroma; milky texture with chocolate malt flavours and perhaps a hint of smoke; the finish dry with bitter chocolate. Rather one dimensional.
