Cask at the John Logie Baird (JDW), Hastings. Chocolate brown in colour with a loose tan head; chocolate aroma; milky texture with chocolate malt flavours and perhaps a hint of smoke; the finish dry with bitter chocolate. Rather one dimensional. Bullit (4686) - Buffalo, New York, USA - NOV 6, 2011
Cask @ Camperdown Place, JDW. Dark brown ruby reddish colour, thin beige head. Nose is very pleasant, with light roastiness, treacle, chocolate and liquorice. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, liquorice. A bit light bodied, otherwise well done. tombyars (1766) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 12, 2011
First tasted this in the Waterside Beer Festival, Seamill in August 1995. Cracking colour of black mahogany with ruby amber highlights and a buff tan head. Burnt black toast aroma. Smooth mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a coplex range of flavours with roast grain, milky coffee, dark chocolate, molasses and dark berry fruit. Aftertaste is dry with spicy hop resins. Finish is very moreish with smokey flavours combining well with roast malt notes. A cracking old ale and worth seeking out. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - SEP 21, 2011

Black, bready head. Lovely gently roasted-to-burnt aroma. Lovely smooth palate, full, and a touch milky. Carbonation low. TAste is a beautiful gentle toasty roast. Perfect to session, simply delicious.
Rerate: Cask, 4th day (Kitty’s, Helsinki) (7:4+:8+:4:14=3.7)
Capers. Dark. Some spicy baked apple retronasals. Super roasty. Smooth and soft. Both heavy esters and rich roasts in finish. Super porter. Not quite as good as last time, but still a super quaffable beer.
Cask Real Ale 0.25L glass at St Urhos Porter days. Pale beige long lasting head. Mild nose. Dark reddish black colour. Slightly sour mildly smokey malty taste. Some hints of licorice. At the end hoppy bitterness. Not very smokey. Average carbonation. tdtm82 (1701) - Essex, ENGLAND - DEC 19, 2009
A very solid old ale-stout. Really well balanced. Coffee; roasted malts and chocolate. A lovely winter brew. Consumed on tap in the Queen’s Head, Chelmsford. A fantastic beer I will look out for in bottle conditioned. Keep it up. Svesse (8781) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - DEC 12, 2009
(Cask at White Horse , Parson’s Green, London, 28 Nov 2009) Dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dried fruit, liquorice and a touch of smoke. Malty, slightly roasted taste with coffee, toasty malt and dark bread. Mellow bittersweet finish. Above medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Well balanced and tasty. Nice. thewolf (12798) - Kolding, DENMARK - JAN 13, 2009
Cask @ YNWA, Kolding. Pours a nice, deep, chestnut brown with a small, creamy, light-brown head. Aroma is sweet, lots of fruity plums, some milky chocolate and light smokiness. Low carbonation, fine mouthfeel. Flavour starts out with a tartish fruity edge, but soon settles as a sweet, malty beer with peity, chocolate and roasted tones. Long, lingering, spicy and smoky aftertaste. downender (8882) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 3, 2009
Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, Bath 3/1/09. Dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma of coffee and milk chocolate. Flavour started with some sweet, creamy chocolate before a touch of smokiness and some spice. The finish was pleasantly bitter.
