COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Seasonal - Winter. Previously regular.
Brewed at OG 1048 and ABV 5.0%. A delightful, warming, dark porter type ale, with a roasted malt taste and a hint of liquorice surrounding a developing bitter flavour. Very appealing to the eye.

Cask. Dark brown, almost black, in colour. Roasted malts, coffee and some liquorice. Lightly smoked/roast malts. Fruit (berries). Enjoyed this. Nice beer, but is it an Old Ale or a Porter? (2008)

Cask, The Highcross, Leicester. Near black with a firm creamy head. Earthy roast coffee with jammy blackberries and liquorice. Some medicinal aspects. Peaty smokiness with a peppery finish.

Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A deep brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some liquorice, slight smoke, subtle blackcurrant jam, a little burnt toast and maybe earthy hops. Taste of roasted malts, blackberry, maybe raisin, some liquorice, light smoke, subtle caramel and blackcurrant. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A dry, liquoricy, fruity bitterness in the finish. Surprising juicy, fruity sweetness to this. Balanced with smoky, liquorice. Quite thin for a 5%er but good.

Cask at the Assembly Rooms, Solihull. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is light toasty malt, light smoke, dry coffee. The flavour is smoked liqourice with a light, slightly watery, coffee, malt, light chocolate palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask. Dark brown. Thick tan head. Earthy aroma. Pleasantl, swet caramel malt foreground with one raisin notes within. No chocolate or coffee conspicuous and the licorice is understated. Given the dark character and abv, the body is medium rather than full, and more watery than resinous on the palate. If this is a January -February seasonal ale, I may regret drinking it in late September on draft.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2015 Peaty dark malt aroma. Ruby / black appearance. Coca with burnt chocolate taste. Also hint of licorice on the palate. Nice one though. Again I favour the dark ales.

Cask, hand-pulled, Crystal Palace, faintest hint of peaty malt aroma, very dark brown near black, creamy tan head, very good film of lacing, dark berries, malty flavour, a bit watery, easy to drink.

Beese (2669) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 2, 2014
Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 16 November 2013. Poured a clear dark ruby colour, near black with a dense beige head. Aroma of cocoa, dark malt and grain. Medium to full bodied mouth feel. Dark chocolate flavours with grassy hops and toffee sweetness. Finish was dry grains, burnt sugar and hop resin. Pretty nice for a pint of cask at Spoons...
