Bourbon aroma. Amber coloured strong in alcohol and smooth on the palate with a little dryness and bitterness in a warming full malt finish. DuffManSW (436) - Riverside, California, USA - FEB 7, 2010
On tap at the Stone Winter Storm...Pours a hazy orange brown with a nice white lacing head...Sweet caramel aroma not a lot of bitterness...Flavor is slightly sweet and still bitter...Still pretty good. Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 9, 2010
On tap at Stone. Woohoo! Copper pour with almost no carbonation showing in an unfortunately small taster size glass. I wanted to get to know this brew in a snifter, at least! Nose is alcohol and sharp dark fruit. Taste is same as nose. Alcohol, in a good way. Dark fruit. Bit of spiciness. Nice to get to try this brew.

Bottled. Tasted as blind # 7 @ yesprs. Orange coloured. Unclear. Dense light brown head. Sweetness, fruits, herbs, caramel and light prunes in the aroma. Flavour of fruits, herbs, prunes and caramel. Slightly occidated, but not really an issue. Medium to full bodied. Grapy ligth bitter end. MiP (15667) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - MAY 21, 2010
Bottle. Weak vanilla aroma. Hazy red amber colour. Very small tan head. The flavour starts off sweet, there is some caramelly hop flavour. Good vanilla sweetness, perhaps a little toffee. Distinct bitterness, a little rough, but balances the sweetness OK. A barley wine, I suppose. 838318 nickd717 (4691) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 18, 2011
Thanks to largadeer for sharing this rare tick. Clear deep amber pour with a small off-white head that fades to very nice swirls. Big caramel and toffee aroma with maple syrup, some candied fruit notes and slight cardboard oxidation. The flavor is great, fairly sweet but intense and complex. Big sweet candy notes, toffee, caramel, cardboard, and faded hop notes that still lend bitterness. Medium-bodied and smooth, surprisingly not boozy, with low carbonation. Surprisingly drinkable - I could definitely have more than the ticker’s pour I got, but this is a wale so that ain’t happening. fiulijn (20515) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2011
Blind tasting at YesprTmoney99 (14492) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 13, 2013
Hazy amber color; small creamy head. Phenolic caramel and hop aroma, light vanilla. Good body strength and mouthfeel; nutty and sweet caramel flavor, with a strong bitterness. Well blended. Powerful; very good.
Draft. Poured reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, toasted sweet malt, alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.
