Dark brown color with little foam. The smell is not too special. The taste is roasted nuts, with a sweet aromas. Not too great for my taste. The aftertaste is dry and roasty.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2015 On tap at Erzbierschof. Brown color with hardly any head. Malty aroma, caramel. A bit of earthy hops, and just a hint of spiciness. Smooth. Okay, but a bit underwhelming for Storm & Anchor standards.EDIT: Had it from the bottle - Huge head, better appearance. much, *much* more hops there. Incredibly hoppy nose for a Barleywine. Lots of sweet fruity hops. Berries in the aftertaste. Very bitter! I like it better than the draft version! Even in a BA Barleywine, Tom manages to put a typical S&A hopping in... Crazy.

courtesy of Tom Strickler - fully cloudy brown beer with a poor head retention; bourbon-like woody notes hit first then come the dark biscuity maltiness and a fair hoppiness of red fruits (plums, blackcurrant); sweet and full-bodied, light sticky and fairly bitter; long fruity and woody finish with notes of caramel and plums
